PA Takeover - My Favourite RJ Reads

Hi, Rachel here, RJ's fantabulous PA (yeah she doesn't know I'm doing this) heh! Here's a few of my favourite RJ's books.

Cover by Meredith Russell
The Ranchers Son (Montana #2)

Once in a while a book comes along that just blows you away, and this one did it for me.  The romance, the drama, the mystery, the gorgeous gorgeous Adam and Ethan and of course, as with most of RJ's books, the family, everything was just perfect. My favourite of all of RJ's books.

The Book

A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.

When he wakes up in the hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can't remember anything to help... except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Two words, and they're not much, but it's a start: Crooked Tree.

Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads, he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn't his brother, but it's someone who could maybe help him discover what happened twelve years ago.

What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could destroy any kind of future they may have together.

A Reason To Stay (Heroes #1)

This one is a kinda spin off to the Sanctuary series but you don't have to have read those first.  The reason I love this one is simple, Viktor. He's such an arrogant arse (and I adored that about him) and watching him sort his head out and realise that he was where he should be was great (even though I wanted to punch him pretty much every 5 minutes).  Another mystery to solve and some very touching family moments had this one high up there in my RJ favourites.

The Book

When SEAL, Viktor Zavodny, left small town America for the Navy he made sure he never had a reason to return for anything other than visiting family. He wanted to see the world and fight for his country and nothing, or no one, was getting in his way. He fights hard, and plays harder, and a succession of men and women share his bed.

But a phone call from his sister has him using his thirty day down time to go home instead of enjoying his usual thirty nights of random sex and sleep.

What he finds is a mystery on the Green Mountains and the only man attempting to make sense of seemingly unrelated deaths. His childhood friend and first love... Lieutenant Aiden Coleman, Sheriff.

There were reasons Viktor left his home. Not least Aiden Coleman with his small town innocence and his dreams of forever. Now Adam and Viktor need to work together to save lives and prove there is a hero in all of us.

When it's done, if they make it out alive, can Aiden persuade Viktor that he has a reason to stay? Maybe forever?

Boy Banned

This cover, I mean, just look at it, I was going to read this book no matter what the minute I saw the cover. And the story certainly did it justice :) Anyone knowing RJ knows she has an intimate knowledge of the autism spectrum which makes the character of Corey seem so real. The romance between Angel and Corey is sweet and wonderful and I challenge anyone to read this and not feel the warm and fuzzies at the end <3

The Book
When the only way to win is to hide who you are, how far are you prepared to go?

Reuben “Angel” Jacobs is one step away from giving it all up. Losing a place in the live finals of Sing UK almost kills him. He has no choice but to go home and work for the family business, even though it means giving up his dreams and proving his old bullies right.

Corey Dixon is a rocker at heart. Being on the spectrum means that making sense of other people’s ‘normal’ is hard in itself, let alone in the chaos of a high-powered competition. Singing is his safe space, the only way he can think through the noise in his head. Messing up his audition for the live shows means his journey is over, and it’s the worst day of his life.

The judges throw them a lifeline and create a boy band from the near-miss hopefuls. Angel, Corey, and three others are put together in a room and offered the chance to sing as a group. Agreeing to become part of the new band means Corey has to hide who he is and what Angel has come to mean to him.

Is winning worth the price Corey and Angel have to pay?

How Much For The Whole Night?

Ok I've made this one really small in the hope RJ doesn't see it...this one is a freebie and it's only very short.  I'm not going to tell you anything about it, you just need to go read it, it's fab.

Download it here.

  1. I loved Boy Banned very much. The unconventional concept, the characters, autism, every part of this novel was created with great attention that everything seems so real.

Music-inclined novels always have a special place in my heart and this really dis it for me. Boy Banned is actually my fave novel of her.

  2. It's hard to choose just one favorite so I'm going with Crooked Tree Ranch! I love the first books in a new series because that's what sets up the expectations of what's to come. It's where we learn the characters and about the setting of the series. And the couples that are in this book are ones we get to spend more time with and get to know the longer a series continues.

  9. My favorite is The Bucket List. Which Rj knows..cause I tell her all the time...lol I love them all but this one is my favorite. NOT because I got to be in it...kind of...lol but because right from the first blog post, when Rj was creating it, for some reason I felt connected to it more so than any other and I wasn't even in it yet. Sounds crazy I know but there it is.

  10. My favorite is The Gallows Tree...probably because it was the first RJ book I read. I go back and re-read it as least once or twice a year. :-)
