🎧It's All About The Christmas Audio - Eli Easton - Unwrapping Hank🎧

More Christmas audio this week and it's Eli Easton's Unwrapping Hank.

This to me is a perfect Christmas book... love... holidays... family... animals... more love... a *bad* guy... the *good guys* and most of all humour. I love Eli Easton's books and this one is just the right book to sit with the Christmas tree and lose yourself in a funny, endearing, happy, loving and it left me smiling like an idiot.

Unwrapping Hank - OUT NOW

Sloane loves a good mystery. He grew up as the son of two psychiatrists, so he finds most people tediously easy to figure out. He finds his way to Pennsylvania State University, longing for a rural experience, and ends up being lured into joining a frat by Micah Springfield, the hippest guy on campus.

Nothing in Sloane's classes is as intriguing as Hank Springfield, Micah's brother and fellow frat house member. Hank looks like a tough guy - big muscles, tatts, and a beard - but his eyes are soft and sweet. He acts dumb, but he's a philosophy major. He's presumably straight, but then why does Sloane feel such crazy chemistry whenever Hank is around? And why does Hank hate Sloane so much?

When Sloane ends up stuck on campus over Christmas, Micah invites him to spend the holidays at their family farm in Amish country. It's a chance to experience a true Americana Christmas - and further investigate the mystery that is Hank Springfield. Can Sloane unlock the secrets of this family and unwrap the heart hidden inside the beefcake?

CHAPTER 1:
SAMMY AND THE BAD MAN

February, 2017

Flagstaff, Arizona

Sammy cowered under the bed in the guest room and covered his ears with his paws. His body shook with stress. He hated it when the Bad Man yelled. Sammy had never liked loud noises, but the Bad Man's shouting was the worst loud noise of all.

"I swear to God, if you don't shut your damn mouth—"

Because Sammy was supposed to make it stop. That was his job, to protect Mom Marie. But he was too afraid. Sammy trembled. His insides churned with fear, worry, and deep-down doggie guilt.

When the Bad Man was angry, his breath smelled sharp and his face got so ugly. He was hurting Mom Marie with his bad words and probably also with push, strike, pinch.

Mom Marie was Mom Charlotte's sister. She'd taken Sammy in after Mom Charlotte died. Sammy didn't love Mom Marie as much as he'd loved Charlotte. When he met Mom Charlotte, he was just a little pup, and he'd loved her with his whole heart and being and soul and stomach and everything. But Mom Marie was a nice human. She stroked his fur and gave him good things to eat. She talked sweet to him. It was Sammy's job to take care of Mom Marie now that he lived with her. But the first time he tried to stand between her and the Bad Man, the Bad Man had yelled and struck Sammy again and again with a big metal tool he'd grabbed from the counter. It hurt. A lot. Sammy's insides had hurt for days. It had hurt to breathe. It had hurt to pee. But the Bad Man's hate hurt the worst of all. Sammy didn't know why the Bad Man hated him so much, but he was the strongest in the pack, so he could do whatever he liked.

Now Sammy was overcome with fear whenever the Bad Man got close. He no longer tried to protect Mom Marie. Instead, Sammy hid under the bed and cowered. He felt shame for his fear and his failure. He was not a good dog at all. He hadn't saved Mom Charlotte the day she'd fallen down the stairs. He'd stood at the bottom of the stairs and watched, not understanding what was happening until it was too late.

Could he have saved her? What if he had leaped forward and let her land on his soft body? He should have tried. If only he had tried!

And now he couldn't save Mom Marie either. He was useless.

"I saw you! You flashed your leg to that guy."

"I did not, Hank! You just make this stuff up in your head."

"Don't you dare say that to me!"

Sammy shut his eyes. To calm himself, he went somewhere else in his mind. He thought about Mom Charlotte, of her soft gray hair, her twinkling eyes, and the love in her smile. He thought of the way she hugged him on the couch at night while she watched TV, about their long walks together. He loved it when she took him to the mountains to hike. His favorite thing, though, was the comforting weight of her against his back as Sammy snuggled up next to her in bed. That lovely, comfy bed! If only—

"There you are, you stupid dog!"

Sammy's eyes flew open. The Bad Man's face was hard and twisted as he looked under the bed. His beard was full and bristly, his eyes small and mean. He reached in and grabbed Sammy's collar, dragging him out. The collar choked Sammy and the dragging was so swift, one of his back legs got tangled. Sammy yelped.

As soon as he was out, he tried to get to his feet and run, but the man held his collar fast.

"Outside! Outside now!" He dragged Sammy toward the kitchen.

Sammy yelped again. He was in trouble. It was going to hurt.

"Hank, leave him alone, please!" Mom Marie's eyes were red, and Sammy sensed the bad feelings pouring off her.

"You want to be a bitch to me? Then your precious dog is not welcome in my house!"

"Hank, come on! I said I was sorry! Please!"

The Bad Man opened the back door and dragged Sammy into the yard.

Mommy. Mommy. Help me, Sammy thought, picturing Mom Charlotte. But she was gone and couldn't help him now.

It had snowed all day and the ground was covered with a heavy pelt of the white, cold stuff. It stuck to Sammy's fur as he was dragged through on his four paws.

The Bad Man snapped Sammy's collar to a chain on a tree. He often put Sammy out in the yard on the chain. Sammy loved the outside. He loved the soft, fragrant grass and the way the tall trees softened the sun. He loved trying to bite the wind. He loved watching birds and spiders and all sorts of wild things. He even loved the snow when it came down in thick, fluffy pads. But he loathed the chain. The chain pinned him in place and it was so boring. It was bad enough when the day was warm and gentle. But in the cold…

No, please. I'm sorry. I will stay under the bed. I promise. You won't even see me. Just please don't leave me here!

Mom Marie pleaded, but the Bad Man shoved her inside and shut the door.

Sammy was alone.

He shook all over, both from the cold outside and from a deeper cold inside. He wished to be back home with Mom Charlotte where every day was fun and safe and he was so so loved. He hadn't known then how lucky he was. He hadn't known then that life could be scary. And lonely. And sad. But worse of all was the guilt, the way his doggy heart beat with longing to help those he loved—in vain. He couldn't help anyone. He was a coward.

When it was clear no one was going to come out to let Sammy back into the house, he dug a hole in the snow with his paws, making a place to lie down. The chain didn't stretch far enough to let him crawl under the porch or huddle next the fence. At least here under the tree, the snow was less deep. He lay in the spot he'd made and tried to sleep, but he was too cold. When he couldn't stand it anymore, he got up and ran around the tree, around and around, first one way and then the other to unwrap the chain. When he got tired of that, he would lay back down again.

Inside him, in the space where his grief and guilt over Mom Charlotte lived, he still felt love, love, love. Love for Mom Charlotte, for Mom Marie, for the world. It was a love that was pure, and it shone hot despite everything. That stew of emotions created waves and currents, highs and lows, chemicals that washed through every cell of his body.

Sammy was getting smarter.

He could sense that he understood more and more of what the Bad Man and Mom Marie said, both the words and the meaning behind the words. Sammy's view was shifting, but he didn't know what to do with these new thoughts and feelings.

Get away, a calm voice in his head said. Run away. The next chance you get, watch for it and run. It isn't safe here. You can't stay.

But Mom Marie would be alone and in danger.

You can't help her. He's too strong. Run away. She wants you to. She hates it when Hank hurts you. Mom Charlotte would want you to run away too.

But even if Sammy could leave Mom Marie, where could he go? What would he do? Who would feed him? And how would he live being outside all the time when he hated being outside in the snow right now?

It was hopeless. Helplessness mixed with the stew of emotions down deep in his core. He lay on the frozen ground, or he paced. He thought. The cold grew worse, his body wracked with shivers. The night was endless.

But no one ever came.

Valentine's Short - Eli Easton

This short features Toby and Sean from “Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles”

“There you go, Mrs. Rosenberry! Happy Valentine’s Day.” I placed Mrs. Rosenberry’s books in her fabric bag and slid them over the counter.

Despite being in her 70s, she was apparently feeling the sentiments of season, because she’d picked a racy contemporary romance along with her usual cozy mystery. “Thank you, Toby. You too. I can see you’re someone’s valentine.”

She eyed the bouquet that sat on the library’s main desk and gave me a knowing smile. She knew exactly who my valentine was—Sean Miggles, the head librarian. I’d been flustered when the bouquet was delivered that morning. I’d never received flowers in my life! I was as proud of the understated mass of white rosebuds and green carnations as if they were the Man Booker prize for literature.

“I’m a lucky guy,” I agreed, brushing my fingers over the soft petals.

“So is he. Have a wonderful day, Toby!”

After she left, I knocked on Sean’s office door, slipped inside, and gave him yet another quick kiss of appreciation.

“Not in the library,” Sean muttered, the way he always did, even though we were alone in his office and his gentle fingers on my cheek said he wasn’t really adverse to the attention.

“Then you shouldn’t send me flowers. Apparently they really turn me on,” I countered, nuzzling his neck before pulling away.

I returned to my desk whistling, pleased with myself for leaving him flushed and speechless.

That night after the library closed, Sean drove us to The Refractory, a French restaurant near Columbus that was tres chic. It was completely booked for Valentine’s Day, but of course Sean had made reservations. It was in a gorgeous old building with brick walls, huge arched windows, fine linen and candles on the tables, and the wait staff all in black. It had the sort of dishes that had small but elegant portions, green and orange drizzles on the plates for color, springs of rosemary, and slices of fresh berries as garnish. Everything I put in my mouth was amazing. But better than anything the chefs could serve up was the sight of Mr. Miggles across from me.

Damn. He looked so handsome it made me squirm. He’d worn his best gray suit with a light rose shirt and deep burgundy tie. His neat brown hair and dimpled chin brought me to my knees, but best of all was the heat and love in his eyes.

How did I, little old Toby Kincaid from Sandy Lake, Ohio, renown book geek, ever get so lucky?

While we waited for our dessert of chocolate mousse, he put a rectangular box on the table. It looked like the sort of box that might hold a pen. I gave him a curious look and put my gift for him on the table too.

“What is it?” I asked, picking up my box.

“A question you’ll soon have answered,” he remarked with a smile. “You first. Go ahead.”

I opened the box. Inside was a shiny set of keys on a beautiful key fob. The fob was made of soft black leather and was inset with two initials in gold. They read “T&S” for Toby & Sean. I adored the fob instantly, but what were the keys for?

I blinked at them for a moment before I recognized the individual items—there were two library keys, a key to Sean’s house, a key to my parents’ house, and two familiar Hyundai keys. They were my own keys, but they’d been cleaned and polished and added to the new fob. Had he done that today?

I looked up at him questioningly.

“I couldn’t afford to get you a new car, alas. But you know how I worry about you. I had your Hyundai detailed, given a maintenance and oil change, and four new snow tires put on it. It’ll be more enjoyable to drive and safer now.”

My mouth dropped open. That was so sweet! I had sort of trashed that Hyundai, and I’d been needing new tires for about a year. And wow, had he been tricky! He’d suggested I put my car in the tiny garage at his lake house a week ago ahead of an oncoming snowstorm, and had offered to drive us both to work in the week since. I’d had no idea my car hadn’t been in the garage the whole time.

“Wow, you’re good at subterfuge,” I told him. “Now I’m worried.”

“I’ll only use it for the best of motives, I promise.” He winked at me slyly.

“This is the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me.” I added, in a soft voice, “You are so getting laid for this.” I rubbed his calf with my toe under the table.

“Mmm. I look forward to it.” His low and sexy tone sent a thrill of lust through me.

I swallowed. “Now open yours.”

His box was a larger rectangular about the size of a book. With a raised eyebrow he unwrapped the brown paper with pink hearts. Inside was a kindle in elegant brown case with his name and email address engraved inside the cover in case he ever lost it.

“Sacrilege!” he said teasingly, but he didn’t look unpleased.

“I know you’ve resisted. And you can still read real books too. But this will be great if you ever need to travel, or if you want to read at night when I’m asleep. It’s backlit. Plus, with our new digital lending program at the library, I thought you might want need it to check on downloads from time to time.”

“It’s perfect,” he said simply. He put it down by his plate. “And so are you.”

Oh my God. The look in his eyes for was adoring. I was tempted to jump him despite being in a four star restaurant.

The mousse arrived, distracting my carnal thoughts momentarily with chocolate bliss. We ate from the same dish. I was feeling sappy enough to think about it as a metaphor for life.

As we left the restaurant, Sean took my elbow, clearly proud to be with me. I gave him a long, hot kiss in the car before he started the engine.

When you love someone you want to do things for them—little things and big things.

“Happy Valentine’s day, my love,” Sean whispered, placing a final kiss on the top of my head.

Sunday Social with Eli Easton

Welcome Eli, draw up a chair, and relax, this isn’t going to be bad, promise.

RJ: For those readers of mine who maybe haven’t tried your books (unlikely!) tell us about the kind of books you write:

EE: I write m/m romance that tends to be on the sweeter side. By that I don’t mean there isn’t any sex, but there’s usually humor and a lighter theme. I also love hurt/comfort stories and have written a fair number of those.

RJ: Your series of quickened books, I love those - what inspired you to write them?

EE: I read Molly Harper’s paranormal romance series with werewolves, which is very funny and tongue-in-cheek, and I wanted to do a similar series for m/m. I tried to think of what might be more unique than werewolves and my husband suggested dog shifters. We are big dog lovers in our household--we have 3 bulldogs. At first I was leery if I could pull it off and have it be sexy, but once I started writing the first book, I had so much fun playing with the dog characters. And when they’re in human form they are pretty hot!

RJ: My favorite has to be Roman - will we see more of him?

EE: I plan to write a 4th book in the Mad Creek series for releases late this spring. And yes, I will have Roman, Lance, Tim, Milo, and the other characters in it to some degree. I’m excited to start it, but I have a few other things to finish first.

RJ: what is your favorite of your series? Or your favorite book you’ve written?

EE: That’s really hard to say. I love the Howl at the Moon/Mad Creek books. That’s probably my favorite series. I also love writing Christmas stories and my favorites are Unwrapping Hank and Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles. And I am really fond of A Second Harvest, because the older MC is very near to my heart and it’s set on our RL farm, basically. I’m going to be working on another book in the Men of Lancaster County series soon.

RJ: I love your Christmas stories! Unwrapping Hank is my fave ;) So what plans do you have for Christmas 2017? And ooohh another men of Lancaster County book… :)

EE: I haven’t thought about it yet. Lol. Hopefully, I can come up with something good. Last year I got the inspiration for Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles after watching “A Single Man” with Colin Firth and I was really pleased with the concept. Sometimes those things come easily and sometimes they’re elusive as hell!

RJ: I totally get that! So… I’ve just finished the read of your new book Snowblind, what was it like to write 2 alpha men like that?

EE: It was a bit weird, to be honest. Lol. It comes more naturally to me to write characters that are -- frailer isn’t the right word, but let’s say less perfect and buff. The main idea I had for that story was this twisty, spy-vs-spy thing where the story keeps turning. And I hope I sort of pulled that off. But the two men were both very alpha and I found myself laughing out loud writing some of the sex scenes. In a ‘I can’t believe I’m writing these words’, cheek-burning-with-embarrassment kind of way.

RJ: LOL… It certainly twists to become something quite different to what I was expecting. I was so surprised. When is it available?

EE: It’s out Mar 1 from Dreamspinner.

RJ: So, what if a new reader comes to me and asks what I recommend? I wouldn’t know where to start, as you know I fan girl you completely (LOL). So, what is your most popular book - what should people read of yours first?

EE: The book with the biggest ranking on Goodreads is Blame it on the Mistletoe and then Unwrapping Hank. So if you like Christmas books, I’d suggest starting with one of those. For not-CHristmas, The Mating of Michael or A Second Harvest.

RJ: Clear up something for me… how do you say ELI… now I say Elly, but I think you said when we met that it was Ee-Lie… is that right?

EE: Yes, it’s EE-lie. :-)

RJ: You will forever be Elly to me… LOLS… So to wrap things up, do you have any news for what is coming up this year?

EE: I’m currently writing a book for Riptide that will be a friends-to-lovers, NA story with more sexual escapades than my usual. It’s called “Five Dares” and should be out in the fall. After that I want to write the next book in the Men of Lancaster County series. It will feature a guy who moved to the country to start a farm sanctuary and the other MC is a young Amish guy who was kicked out for being gay. There will be a 4th Howl at the Moon title out hopefully by end of May. And then another Christmas story. I have lots of other things I want to write, but right now I’m not sure what will surface to the top of the “to do” list by the time I’m ready for another project to begin.

RJ: Ohhhh and tell us more about the pig!

EE: lol. My husband and I have a 20 acre farm in Pennsylvania. We have 2 cows out in a pasture/barn. About 6 months ago we saw this little black thing following the cows around. It was a tiny pig! We have no idea where it came from. We lured it with food and tamed it and now “Watson” is our family pig. He loves the cows and hangs out with them. The vet says he is a pot belly pig, and again, we have no idea how he found us. But he’s a lucky pig, because we’re probably the only vegan farm in Lancaster County. He’s just adorable and super smart and affectionate. He’s gotten fairly big now--he’s maybe 60 pounds. Watson will definitely feature in my upcoming farm sanctuary romance.

RJ: I thought he might, he has a regular personality!!!! Thank you so much for coming over to chat, I’m putting links to your books and the reviews I’ve done on them below!

EE: Thanks so much for having me, RJ! Mwahh! I hope to see you again at a con soon.

RJ's Reviews

How To Howl At The Moon: A new Eli Easton book is a treat! She is an autobuy for me and I love every one of her books. I am going to say the expected and state that this book is no exception. I love the world building in this book. Sexy and gorgeous with a beautiful town as a backdrop... brilliant concept and a wonderful book...

How To Walk Like Man: Beautiful story. At times I laughed out loud, at others I wanted to cry for Roman. Roman is a wonderful character and I fell in love with him.  Gorgeous emotional richly described book

How To Wish Upon A Star: This book is just one long feel. I fell in love with Milo, and could not put this book down. And OMG, the way Eli describes this town... I want to visit... Milo and Jason are perfect and this story is highly recommended by me... :) A gorgeous romance, and appearances from old characters is win/win.

Falling Down: Stunning. A beautifully written journey. Highly recommended.

A Second Harvest: As a huge Eli Easton fan I was so excited to read this. I loved the dynamics and the story, and hell, i loved everything about this book. A proper romance, with solid family dynamics, and a forever romance. Lovely.

Blame It On The Mistletoe: Perfect Christmas Read. I loved both characters so much. Told from Mick's POV we see Fielding, an isolated brilliant geek genius, transforming in front of our eyes. He hasn't done much in his life--his mother is controlling and wanted Fielding to achieve academically and up until now he hasn't had freedom. Then Mick happens in his life. Kind of a gay for you story, until you read more and realise that Eli is cleverly filling in back story.
Highly recommended, and a good solid length story. 5/5, the writing is excellent and the story of the geek and the jock is perfect!

Unwrapping Hank: This to me is a perfect Christmas book... love... holidays... family... animals... more love... a *bad* guy... the *good guys* and most of all humour. I love Eli Easton's books and this one is just the right book to sit with the Christmas tree and lose yourself in a funny, endearing, happy, loving and it left me smiling like an idiot. 6/5

Midwinter Night's Dream: I loved this book so much... in fact I have loved every single one of Eli's Christmas books... I think I fell in love with Micah, oh and we get an awesome visit back home to the farm and the barn... oh, it's just all sparkly yummy Christmasy goodness.... Highly Recommended

The Trouble With Tony: I don't often ask for sequels. As a writer I know that sometimes the story is the story, and there is nowhere else the characters could be taken. I don't know if Eli is planning another book featuring these two characters but GAH, I hope Eli does.
This book was wonderful, funny, sexy, and I loved the two characters so much I didn't want to stop reading them even after they got their HEA. You should read, I did and I loved it.

The Enlightenment of Daniel: How i wish I had written something like this story. Beautiful. A must read. I read this in one sitting and could not put it down. I loved how much thought went into creating Nick's family, and the connections between generations. This can be read as a standalone but you should read book 1 for the full experience.

The Mating of Michael: I have read three books this year so far that have broken me... ripped out my heart and made me want to reach into the book and hug every character.
The first was Glory Lands by Vastine Bondurant, the second Hainted from Jordan L Hawk, and the third is the latest book from Eli Easton, the third book in her Seattle series, The Mating of Michael.

Twelve Days of Christmas: Day 3 Eli Easton

It's Eli Easton today, writer of many of my favourite Christmas books (you can find them here), welcome Eli...

Merry Christmas to RJ and her readers!

I have to admit I’m a sucker for Hallmark Christmas movies and all things smoopy when it comes to the holiday season. I also adore Christmas romance books. One of my favorites is RJ’s “The Christmas Throwaway” in ebook and audiobook. That one makes a return for me each year along with my favorite Amy Lane, “Turkey in the Snow”.

I also write an annual Christmas book. In this year’s story, “Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles”, there are two hot librarian MCs, a small Midwestern town, a guy’s crush on his mysterious and brooding boss, Walt Whitman quotes in bed, a Christmas Surprise Box, and hot times in the stacks.

Have a lovely holiday season and enjoy your favorite Christmas romances, old and new.

He’s a man caught out of time, trapped since the Civil War in a magical prison where he can only watch the lives of those around him. He’s also sweet, funny, and cute as hell, with an affinity for cheesy ’80s TV shows. And he’s thrilled to finally have someone to talk to.

But Jason quickly discovers that spending all his time with a man nobody else can see or hear isn’t without its problems—especially when the tabloids find him again and make him front-page news. The local sheriff thinks he’s on drugs, and his best friend thinks he’s crazy. But Jason knows he hasn’t lost his mind. Too bad he can’t say the same thing about his heart.

This is a gorgeous book, so vivid in description and I was sucked in from page one. I'm a huge fan of Marie Sexton and this book is another perfect MM, a must read for Autumn and Christmas.

Blame it on the Mistletoe by Eli Easton

Blurb

When physics grad student Fielding Monroe and skirt-chaser and football player Mick Colman become college housemates, they’re both in for a whole new education. Mick looks out for the absent-minded genius, and he helps Fielding clean up his appearance and discover all the silly pleasures his strict upbringing as a child prodigy denied him. They become best friends.

It’s all well and good until they run into a cheerleader who calls Mick the ‘best kisser on campus.’ Fielding has never been kissed, and he decides Mick and only Mick can teach him how it’s done. After all, the physics department’s Christmas party is coming up with its dreaded mistletoe. Fielding wants to impress his peers and look cool for once in his life. The thing about Fielding is, once he locks onto an idea, it’s almost impossible to get him to change his mind. And he just doesn't understand why his straight best friend would have a problem providing a little demonstration.

Mick knows kissing is a dangerous game. If he gives in, it would take a miracle for the thing not to turn into a disaster. Then again, if the kissing lessons get out of hand they can always blame it on the mistletoe.

Review
Perfect Christmas Read.

Unwrapping Hank by Eli Easton

Blurb

Sloane loves a good mystery. He grew up as the son of two psychiatrists, so he finds most people tediously easy to figure out. He finds his way to Pennsylvania State University, longing for a rural experience, and ends up being lured into joining a frat by Micah Springfield, the hippest guy on campus.

Nothing in Sloane’s classes is as intriguing as Hank Springfield, Micah’s brother and fellow frat house member. Hank looks like a tough guy—big muscles, tatts, and a beard—but his eyes are soft and sweet. He acts dumb, but he’s a philosophy major. He’s presumably straight, but then why does Sloane feel such crazy chemistry whenever Hank is around? And why does Hank hate Sloane so much?

When Sloane ends up stuck on campus over Christmas, Micah invites him to spend the holidays at their family farm in Amish country. It’s a chance to experience a true Americana Christmas--and further investigate the mystery that is Hank Springfield. Can Sloane unlock the secrets of this family and unwrap the heart hidden inside the beefcake?

Review
This to me is a perfect Christmas book... love... holidays... family... animals... more love... a *bad* guy... the *good guys* and most of all humour. I love Eli Easton's books and this one is just the right book to sit with the Christmas tree and lose yourself in a funny, endearing, happy, loving and it left me smiling like an idiot. 6/5

Midwinter Night's Dream by Eli Easton

Blurb

Micah is the hippest, most chill guy on campus. But when he gets the hottest kiss of his life from a cute guy during a game of ‘spin the bottle’, Micah’s cool turns into a puddle of anxious goo. Sure, Micah’s always been a little bi-curious, but he never thought he’d pursue a guy, much less a guy who doesn’t seem to be interested in getting caught.

Leo is passionate about two things: gay rights activism and acting. He stays focused and in control, and he never, ever, dates straight guys. When a chance spin of a bottle at a party has him locking lips with Micah Springfield, president of the Delts, dread-headed, serial-dating, straight Micah, Leo is determined to forget about it, no matter how incendiary the sparks or how gorgeous Micah may be.

Leo has bigger problems. His senior project is directing Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream just before the Christmas break. When his venue cancels at the last minute, Micah offers the use of his parent’s barn in rural Pennsylvania. Leo’s play may be saved, but what about his heart? Between Micah’s sweet lips, his family’s welcoming arms, and a devious bulldog who is determined to play Puck, Leo may find himself falling under the spell of Christmas magic.

Review
I loved this book so much... in fact I have loved every single one of Eli's Christmas books... I think I fell in love with Micah, oh and we get an awesome visit back home to the farm and the barn... oh, it's just all sparkly yummy Christmasy goodness.... Highly Recommended

Author Bio

Having been, at various times, and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, the author of metaphysical thrillers, an organic farmer and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.

As an avid reader of such, she is tinkled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens. All of them (except for the husband) are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest writing.

Eli currently publishes with Dreamspinner Press and has a few self-pubbed titles as well.

She also publishes thrillers under Jane Jensen.

Review:

As a huge Eli Easton fan I was so excited to read this. I loved the dynamics and the story, and hell, i loved everything about this book. A proper romance, with solid family dynamics, and a forever romance. Lovely.

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

David sat against the rough wooden boards of the cow stall and watched Gertrude die. She opened her big brown eyes once toward the end and gazed at him for a long moment. In the glow of the lantern light, her lashes cast deep shadows so David couldn’t see what emotion might be in those eyes. Was she grateful he was sitting up with her? Did she know it was time to go? Was she relieved to finally be leaving this farm where she’d spent her entire long life?

But she was just a cow. Probably she thought none of those things. When she closed her eyes again, it was for the last time. An hour later she stopped breathing, and she was gone.

It felt like an era passed with her, silently and stealthily. David was there when Gertrude was born. She was the first cow that was his, designated as such while still in the womb, a birthday present from his parents. He raised her and showed her at the Harrisburg farm fair when he was in eleventh grade. She was a beautiful brown jersey with classic lines, and she won a third-place ribbon that day. David was proud enough to burst. For years afterward Gertrude was a reliable, strong milking cow.

A farmer didn’t get sentimental about animals. That was plain stupid. But David was not able to kill Gertrude when her milk production fell off. She’d half performed for another decade until he eventually retired her to pasture. If anyone asked, he told them it was good to have a mature cow around to show the rebellious younger ones what was what, teach them the routine. And Gertrude was a leader by personality. She knew how to put other cows and heifers in their places. But the truth was, David just couldn’t bear to load her in the truck and take her to the slaughterhouse.

She was a part of his boyhood, and it was right she was dead now. God knew the boy in him was a far distant memory.

He turned off the lights in the barn and walked back to the house. It was foolishness to have stayed up with her. The day’s work had to be done whether or not he had a good night’s rest. He was too old for this.

The light in the kitchen was on as he approached the house. He checked his watch. It was just past 5:00 a.m. Amy must be up.

For the past two years, Amy had come home from college for the summer to work as a nursing intern at the Lancaster hospital and to help him run a CSA program on the farm. It was Amy who did all the customer work. She made up the flyers, packed the boxes of produce, and met with the customers every week when they came to pick up their shares. She was good at that sort of thing. He wished he could pay her more, but like every other operation on the farm, the profit from the CSA was a very faint line of green. David honestly didn’t know how most farmers made it. His grandfather had paid off the farm, but still, between property taxes, upkeep and maintenance, animal feed, and everything else, he made just enough to get by. As his dad used to say, the gravy was thin.

He opened the sliding glass door and saw Amy in her bathrobe pulling some fresh eggs from the fridge.

“Hey, Dad.” She yawned. “What are you doing out at the barn so early?”

“Gertrude passed.”

“Aw! That’s a shame.” Amy didn’t sound too broken up about it. Then again Amy learned young not to get attached to the animals.

He grabbed a glass from the cupboard, went to the fridge, and poured himself some orange juice. But when he went to lift it to his mouth, he was surprised to discover a hard, thick lump in his throat. He put the glass back on the counter and breathed. Ridiculous. He hadn’t gotten particularly choked up, even when Susan died. But then she was sick for a few years. Her death was a blessing in the end.

“Things live. Things die. That’s the way of it.” His voice was gruff, but the lump eased. He drank his juice.

When he put the glass down, Amy was watching him with a frown. “You sound so cynical. I worry about you, Dad. You should take Mrs. Robeson up on her offer for dinner. I think she really likes you.”

“I’m not interested in Mrs. Robeson.”

Amy rolled her eyes. “You should give her a chance. Mom’s been gone two years now. She wouldn’t want you to be alone forever. And Mrs. Robeson taught both Joe and me in Sunday school. She’s a very nice lady.”

David gave Amy a warning look. “I don’t care to discuss my love life, thank you. Are you gonna cook those eggs, or are you waiting for them to hatch?”

Amy snorted a laugh, but she opened a cupboard and brought out a skillet. “Slave driver! I just worry about you. I hate that you’re all alone here when I go back to school. Joe hardly ever comes home.”

“I don’t mind.”

“I know! That’s the problem. You’re turning into a crusty old hermit. Next time I see you, you’ll have a beard down to your belly button. I know you live on TV dinners, hotdogs, and chips. It’s not healthy. You should get remarried. I know Pastor Mitchell thinks so.”

“Pastor Mitchell wants to get some of his old maids and widows married off so he doesn’t have to handhold them so much. I’m not interested.”

David was half teasing, but Amy still gasped. “Dad! That’s a terrible thing so say!”

David waggled his eyebrows, unrepentant, and exited the kitchen.

He went upstairs and took a shower. The sleepless night hit him along with the hot water, and he knew it would be a long day. Why had he felt compelled to sit up with Gertrude? She probably hadn’t even known he was there. But at the thought of her, another wave of sadness hit him. An image ran through his mind—one of falling leaves and the boy he’d been playing in them, laughing. He had no idea where that came from or why.

Out of the shower, he used a hand to wipe off the fogged mirror. He looked at himself critically to see if he could get away with not shaving this morning. His reflection surprised him briefly, as it always did. He felt so old. He always expected to see white hair and a sagging face when he looked in the mirror. But there were only a few strands of gray at the temples of his dark-brown hair and in his close-cropped beard. His face was not young, but it wasn’t sagging yet either. He’d lost a good thirty pounds since Susan died, so he actually looked younger.

Fine. He might not look old, but he sure felt it. And he suddenly understood why he sat up with Gertrude. He wanted to watch her as she escaped the farm at last, as she simply left her body and went away, gone where no one could prevent her going and no one could follow.

One day David would leave too, maybe just that way. He’d shut his eyes and vanish, leaving a shell behind. But dear Lord, he was only forty-one this past May. Even if he died when his dad did, at age fifty-eight, he had years to wait yet.

Just to… wait.

Christie challenges all the boundaries of David's closed world and brings out feelings he’d buried long ago. Can he find the courage to break free of the past and take a second chance at happiness?

Review - How to wish upon a star, Eli Easton

Dr. Jason Kunik is working on the most earth-shattering genetics project ever, DNA mapping of a new species, the quickened—dogs who can shift into human form. The problem is, no one knows the quickened exist and Jason can’t betray them by publishing his studies. When he moves to Mad Creek to continue his research in a town full of quickened, all he wants is peace, quiet, and to be allowed to bury himself in his work. Perhaps if he figures how out the mutation is activated, he can silence his own inner dog forever.

Milo is a hospice comfort dog who has bonded with, and lost, many beloved patients in his life. He intuitively understands sickness and pain on a spiritual level most can’t see. When he gains the ability to become a man, he thinks he finally has everything he ever wanted. But being a man isn’t the same thing as being loved, and taking shelter in Mad Creek isn’t the same thing as finding a home.

When a mysterious illness hits Mad Creek and threatens all the quickened in town, it’s up to the scientist and the comfort dog to figure out what it is and how to stop it. Along the way they might discover that true love is possible—if you wish upon a star.

This is the third book in the “Howl at the Moon” series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

My review

This book is just one long feel. I fell in love with Milo, and could not put this book down. And OMG, the way Eli describes this town... I want to visit... Milo and Jason are perfect and this story is highly recommended by me... :) A gorgeous romance, and appearances from old characters is win/win.

New Year New Read - Eli Easton, How To Walk Like a Man

Part of the New Year New Read project
Eli is one of my most favourite authors and whatever she writes I love... but... this book, the second in her Mad Creek series, is seriously the most gorgeous book of hers... Roman - I have no words to describe how I fell in love with Roman. My heart melted when I read his character - so brave, and strong, and fragile at the same time. Beautiful.

Twelve Days of Christmas, Day 12 - Eli Easton

The fabulous Eli Easton is our final guest this year. She's giving away 3 prizes of an ebook from her 3 Christmas stories – Blame it on the Mistletoe, Unwrapping Hank, and Midwinter Night’s Dream. The winner will be picked on 27th December at 6pm, GMT.

Question 1: What is your favourite Christmas movie?

“Elf” with Will Farrell
Question 2: What is your best Christmas memory?

My husband and I were married on Christmas Eve. We had both families together at my sister’s house and got married in a church there. So that was pretty special.
Question 3: What is the best present you’ve received?

My husband (then boyfriend) gave me plan tickets to New Orleans one year when I was working on a story set there. I’d never been!
Question 4: What is the best present you’ve given?

Hmm. I think that would fall in the PWP category.
Question 5:  Santa Claus – real or fake?

Real!
Question 6:  What is your favourite Christmas book?

A Christmas Carol by Dickens
Question 7: Do you like eggnog?

Yes, but I’m vegan now so I don’t drink it anymore.
Question 8: What do you eat at Christmas?

In years past, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, peas. But I need to find a new tradition now that we’re off meat. I made a really nice wild rice with dried fruit and nuts and date-syrup sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving, so I may try that again.
Question 9: Be honest, when do you put up the Christmas tree?

It really depends on the year. This year it went up before Thanksgiving because we were having family here for the holiday. Usually it’s just a few weeks before Christmas.
Question 10.  When do you open your presents?

Christmas day.
Question 11. Do you have snow at Christmas?

I live on a farm in Pennsylvania, so usually there is snow, but not this year!
Question 12: What is the best – all-time – Christmas song. Ever!

O Holy Night singer by an operatic tenor
