Merry & Bright - Joanna Chambers - Review

Merry & Bright

Three seasonal love stories from Joanna Chambers

Humbug

Quin Flint is unimpressed when his gorgeous colleague, Rob Paget, asks for extra time off at Christmas. As far as Quin is concerned, Christmas is a giant waste of time. Quin’s on the fast track to partnership, and the season of goodwill is just getting in the way of his next big project. But when Quin’s boss, Marley, confiscates his phone and makes him take an unscheduled day off, Quin finds himself being forced to confront his regrets, past and present, and think about the sort of future he really wants…and who he wants it with.

Mr Perfect’s Christmas
Sam Warren’s new job hasn’t been going so well so the last thing he’s in the mood for is the obligatory office Christmas party, particularly since Nick Foster’s going to be there. Nick–the guy whose shoes Sam has been trying to fill–seems to take very opportunity to point out where Sam’s going wrong. But when Sam receives an unexpected Secret Santa gift at the party, he’s forced to question his assumptions about his rival. Could it be that he’s been misinterpreting Nick’s actions all along? And is it possible that his reluctant attraction to Nick is reciprocated?

Rest and Be Thankful
Things haven’t been going well for Cam McMorrow since he moved to Inverbechie. His business is failing, his cottage is falling apart and following his very public argument with café owner Rob Armstrong, he’s become a social outcast. Cam needs to get away from his troubles and when his sister buys him a ticket to the biggest Hogmanay party in Glasgow, he can’t leave Inverbechie quick enough. But when events conspire to strand him in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm, not only is he liable to miss the party, he’ll also have to ask his nemesis, Rob, for help.

I love Joanna Chambers' writing so much, and I've read all of these stories individually over the years, all recommended reads. In one  book this is the ideal place to start with Joanna's Christmas stories. Loved them all. Strong believable characters and beautiful Christmas stories... Le sigh.

Sexy, romantic, gorgeous... The Housemates Series from Jay Northcote

Jay Northcote recently released the third book in her Housemates series, Practice Makes Perfect. And if you follow me on Facebook you will know I love her writing, and these are my favourite books of hers!

All three of the Housemates stories have different main characters and can be read as standalones, but it’s probably best to read them in order. They’re fun, sexy feel good reads in a university/college setting. And I love them all... in fact I'm attempting to encourage her to write another one for Christmas!

I've reviewed all three and they are all 5/5.... Jay just has a way of writing that I love - go read book 1, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

The book

Getting experience with the guy next door seems like a great idea—until the lines blur.

Dev, a geeky first year physics student, has zero sexual experience and he’s determined to change that ASAP. After a bad time in halls of residence, he’s starting the summer term with different housemates and a new plan of action.

Ewan lives in the house next door to Dev. He’s young, free and single, and isn’t looking to change that anytime soon. When awkward circumstances throw them together, Ewan offers to help Dev out in the bedroom in return for maths tutoring, and Dev jumps at the chance.

They work their way through Dev’s sex-to-do list, but what starts as a perfect no-strings arrangement gets more complicated as their feelings for each other begin to grow. If they’re going to turn their lessons in lovemaking into something more permanent, they need to work out how they feel about each other—before they get to the end of Dev’s list.

Excerpt

Sitting on his bed, Dev yawned, his full stomach making him sleepy. He stared at his phone as he contemplated calling home but decided he couldn’t face it tonight. He loved his mum, but she did tend to bang on. Once she got him on the line, she’d end up talking for ages and asking him a million questions he was too tired to answer. Instead, he sent his mum a quick text.

All moved in, everything’s good. I’m shattered now so I’m going to have an early night. I’ll call you tomorrow.

She replied within seconds as though she’d been waiting for him to call.

Okay sweetie, glad you’re settled. Sleep well xxx

He picked up his notepad and crossed off phone home. Texting counted. He also crossed off everything else on his list for today. That was Saturday done.

Dev set his notepad aside, opened his laptop, and pulled up his lists app. He liked his notepad for day-to-day organisation; it gave him a certain satisfaction to cross out the things he’d done and to get to the end of the day with all the tasks completed. But for longer-term planning, he kept his lists on his Mac, synced to his phone.

For the first time in six months, Dev could breathe again. Finally he had a safe place where he could get back on track and look to the future. He began to type.

Things To Do This Term

He stared at the words on the screen and sighed. That seemed like a lot of things to aim for. But it was good to have goals, right? Jez and Mac seemed really nice, so hopefully Dev was already on his way to achieving the first objective. And that bloke Ewan… Dev’s mind conjured up the image of the flame-haired hunk who lived next door. Ewan had been friendly.

Maybe there was potential there too.

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England, with her husband, two children, and two cats.

She comes from a family of writers, but she always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed her by. She spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content. This series just gets better and better. I absolutely loved Practice Makes Perfect (Housemates #3). The storyline of the two guys keeping it simple, convenient, and clinical until the moment it becomes more, is one I love. Highly recommended.

The Spence Cohen Series: Book One by N.R. Walker

Thank you so much for having me RJ, I really appreciate it! Last week was the release of Spencer Cohen Series, Book One. And in light of that, I’m going to talk about writing a series.

First off, let me preface this by saying I’m not a plotter. At all. For me, planning a story begins with the main character’s name, his intended love interest’s name, opening the doc and writing the words “Chapter One”. Usually I have a general direction I know these boys will go, and more often than not, I will write the final/closing scene first. Kinda like knowing your destination, then going back and starting at the beginning for the entire journey.

And for me, writing a series is no different. I can honestly say, from all the series’ I’ve done (Red Dirt Heart, Turning Point, Blind Faith, Thomas Elkin, Cronin’s Key) I’ve never intended them to be more than one book. I simply started to write and when that book was done, their story wasn’t. So, I would open a new document and repeat the whole process over again, sometimes writing three or four books, until the characters told me their story was complete.

But with Spencer, I had a plan. Well, kind of. As much as I can plan anything, anyway. I needed to write something shorter―my brain was done with research-intensive novels after the Cronin Key Series, which had a combined word count of over 200K words, and I needed to write something short and fluffy. When I first had the idea of Spencer, he was supposed to be cocky and arrogant, his story was supposed to fun and sexy. But when I finally got around to writing him, he was telling me a different story. He was more complex than that. He had a not-so-nice past and some layers to peel back, so I knew one book wasn’t going to be enough.

I kinda knew his story would be more like Thomas Elkin’s. Three shorter stories with a consecutive timeline, each instalment showing a different level of character and development in their relationship. I’m happy with the three instalments and Spencer and Andrew’s story is complete―but I wouldn’t rule out a revisit to them somewhere in the future. I just can’t promise it this stage.

So while each story isn’t exactly a novel, they’re not that short either… Spencer One is 42K words, Spencer Two is 52K words, and Spencer Three is 50K words. So to put it simply, the story wouldn’t have worked as one book. Not only would the length, and therefore price of a 144K word book, be too high, the story Spencer was telling me was definitely in three parts. And I learned a long time ago not to argue with the characters in my head because I am, after all, just the one who types their story. ;)

So, more about Spencer One. I originally made the cover myself after finding the most perfect double exposed photograph, but I sent it to the lovely Sara York who works her magic with all my covers and she really made it perfect.

Here’s the blurb:

Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers.

The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and got him, it was great. If the guy walked away, then as hard it was for the client, he knew it was over. Regardless of the outcome, Spencer’s work was done.

Andrew Landon’s ex left him without so much as an explanation. But his sister can’t stand to see him miserable, so, much to Andrew’s dismay, they hire Spencer to be Andrew’s new boyfriend to get the ex back.

For Spencer, it is never personal. Merely a business transaction. No emotions, no strings, no complications.

Yeah right.

Even a blind man could see how this would end.

Spencer Cohen Book One is exclusive to Amazon, and can be found HERE.

Spencer Cohen Book Two will be released March 17th, and Spencer Cohen Book Three will be released April 21st.

RJ's Review:

I've never met an NR Walker book that I didn't love.
The first book in her Spencer Cohen series, is wonderful. I fell in love with the characters. Enjoyed their journey so much and as usual with a NR book, I wanted more.

Loved and Highly recommended.

N.R. Walker’s Bio:

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance.
She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don't let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She's been writing ever since...

Play it Safe: A Glasgow Lads Story

Buylink: Amazon

Find the rest of the series here.

Blurb: After living together for three months, Fergus Taylor and John Burns have come to love each other’s quirks, and the bond between them is starting to look permanent. But when John wants to take things to the next level, Fergus balks, haunted by the betrayals in his own past.

John knows if he’s not careful, he could lose Fergus. If only he weren’t so bad at being careful.

To overcome his fears, Fergus must embark on an epic journey, a journey that will test his faith, his trust, and his ability to keep a cool head in a hot, hot place.

A must-read for Glasgow Lads fans—and for new readers, a short ’n’ sweet intro to this hot new Scottish gay-romance series!

Note: Play It Safe features the heroes of Playing for Keeps, but like all Glasgow Lads books, it may be read as a stand-alone story.

Review: I've been waiting SO LONG for this book... at least a year (well it felt like that way even if it was only a few months LOL).

Awww, Liam and Rab, what can I say. I've been waiting for them, and I wasn't disappointed. If you are a fan of the Glasgow Lads series then you need to read this as soon as you can, and if you haven't read them before then see all my reviews and I promise you will love the stories!

Taster:

In the shower, they didn’t speak. There seemed nothing to say, nothing even to think.

Robert kept his focus on this very moment, with Liam kissing him under the warm streams of water; and this moment, with Liam’s soapy hands slicking their way over his chest and abs; and this moment, with Liam’s fingers slipping up behind his neck, into his hair, thumbs brushing just under his ears, hands holding his face so gently, as if he were something precious.

He didn’t think about the past, not even what they’d just done in front of the mirror. He didn’t think about the future, not even what they were going to do in those beds. Robert knew if he let his thoughts come unstuck from Now, even for a split second, he’d remember how precarious the two of them were.

After they dried off—haltingly, between kisses—Liam looped his towel around Robert’s waist. “Now that I’ve got you clean,” he said, reaching back to open the bathroom door, “I mean to get you pure filthy.” He towed Robert out into the hotel room and guided him toward the near bed. “Lie on your stomach.”

Both men strive to maintain a professional relationship, but tempers fray, passions ignite, and soon they’re both falling hard and fast. If they’re ever going to find a way to be together, Alec needs to be honest about who he really is because Ed won’t go back in the closet for anyone.

Review: This book ticked so many of the tropes I love, one night stands, workmates, understanding family, not so understanding family. It was a delicious read, and very sexy, and I devoured it in one sitting. Highly recommended...

New Release: Vanished by Carter Quinn

You know what they say about house guests who stay too long? Henry Cooley and company are kind of like that. Vanished was originally a 27,000 word standalone novella designed to give my Dad a chance to read my writing. Almost two years later, it’s turned into a 97,000 word romantic suspense trilogy. I’ve learned a lot writing these three books. For example, many more readers than I suspected are unwilling to step out of their HEA-requiring comfort zones. To my great pleasure, plenty of readers have been willing to step off that cliffhanger wall with me.

For those who took the risk, I hope Vanished 3 will be a satisfactory conclusion to the saga. Even thought about eight different cliffhangers popped into my head as I wrote the third book, I promise I didn’t end it with one. I couldn’t do that to my readers a third time in the same series. And I couldn’t do it to Henry either. He deserves an answer to what happened to Tom. He deserves a chance to be happy again. And, frankly, after two years, I’m ready to meet and write about another couple.

The Vanished trilogy took me on a fantastic trip for almost two years. I hope the ride it takes you on is just as fabulous. As always, I’d love to hear what you think.

Blurb: It’s been five months since Henry Cooley woke up to find that his husband, Tom MacKinnon, had vanished. Henry has gone through hell and back since then trying to uncover what really happened. But nothing could prepare him for the truth.

Review: If you've been following this story then this is the perfect book to round it all off and explain it. Carter played with my heartstrings and I vacillated between wanting the hero to be with X, then Y, then X again... LOL...

A satisfying and exciting conclusion to a wonderful series. Try it from book 1, which I think is still only 99c on Amazon! Highly Recommended,

Love can conquer all, but can it beat death?

Review: Oh wow. This was beautiful. Made me tear up in places. Wonderful writing. Highly recommended.

Excerpt:

I glared at the mirror of my en-suite bathroom, enhancing the crow’s feet fanning out from my dark grey eyes. A thick tuft of brown hair obscured my view, so I blew it out of my face. “Just this once,” I said, pointing a finger at my own reflection. “Behave yourself. Just this once.”
No reply, of course. There never was one when I really needed it. With a sigh of annoyance I turned away. Heading downstairs, I pushed the cuff of my checkered sleeve back and looked at my watch. Only six am. There were two guests at the Lake House B&B. Neither of them would be up before eight, so I had plenty of time to put some effort into my own breakfast.
On my way past the reception desk, I slowed and glanced at the check-in log. It was still handwritten, even though I did keep records on the computer too these days.
Owen Ashurst, arrival two pm. The booking had been made through the B&B website, not over the phone. But I just knew. I knew. I eased a long breath through pursed lips, hoping it’d settle the squirmy nerves in my belly.
“It’s fine, Nathaniel,” I told myself. “It’s fine.” I wanted to close my eyes and remember all the ways in which Owen and I had been best friends for life. Until life got between us.
I forced myself to walk on toward the kitchen and open the swinging door. Elisa Brown wasn’t in yet, and that suited me fine. I usually didn’t mind her bright and cheerful personality as she did the dishes and restocked the food pantry. But today I wanted a little peace and quiet to ease my whirling mind.
Without giving much thought to what I was doing, I set about making an asparagus and feta cheese omelet, toasted and buttered two slices of bread, roasted a couple of tomatoes and mushrooms, and slid it all on a plate with perfect timing. The old house with the white country kitchen was still quiet. I settled in the seat at the head of the huge wooden table with a sigh of relief. My nerves were ebbing. There was nothing to worry about. Owen was just another guest.
I scooped some egg onto my fork and aimed it at my mouth, when the pan I’d left in the sink rattled. I put the fork down again.
“Gabe, I swear, if you mess with me today I will cover every mirror in this place for an entire month. Don’t think I won’t.”
Silence.
Satisfied, I lifted my fork again. I opened my mouth. The pan gave a tiny rebellious rattle and I was about to say something else, when the door behind me opened. Elisa burst inside in a flurry of snow and…Christmas lights?
“Morning Elisa.” I knew better than to comment, despite the fact that the outside of the Lake House already looked like an exploded Christmas tree.
“Before you say anything, these are for inside. And morning, Nathaniel.”
“I wasn’t going to say anything.”
“I could hear you think it from here. It’s time for a Christmas tree in the house again.”
I gave her a long steady look. She shrugged out of the oversized winter coat needed in these Michigan winters. Her curly blonde hair drifted with static around her round, pretty face. “You do remember what happened the last time we had a Christmas tree, don’t you?” I still suspected Gabe, but innocent until proven guilty and all that.
“I do. That was five years ago. I got a fake one, so this one won’t catch fire. It’s still in my trunk.” She fluttered her eyelashes at me. “If you’d be so kind.”
Resigned, I shoveled eggs in my mouth as Elisa went to hang her coat away. When she returned she busied herself with tidying up the pots and pans I’d used. I’d feel bad about her cleaning up my mess if it wasn’t her job.
“So still just Anderson and Houzer? No stragglers wandered in last night?”
“No, but we do have a new guest coming in today at two.”
“I saw, yes. Owen something. I freshened up the Bear room yesterday.”
“Actually, I’d like to put him in the Superior room.”
Elisa zeroed in on me like a well-aimed missile and I mournfully stared at my empty plate. I had a vague idea a mouthful of food would come in handy any second n—
Two tiny fists planted themselves on a pair of well-formed hips just inside my field of vision. “Nathaniel O’Donnelly, is there something you have to tell me?”
The B&B had twelve double rooms, and each of them was named after a lake in Michigan. It’d make sense to put Owen in the Bear room because it was down the same hallway as the other guests’ rooms. Efficient, when it came to changing sheets and towels. Conflicting with my plans to keep Owen close to my own room, which was at the opposite end of the large old house.

Micah is the hippest, most chill guy on campus. But when he gets the hottest kiss of his life from a cute guy during a game of ‘spin the bottle’, Micah’s cool turns into a puddle of anxious goo. Sure, Micah’s always been a little bi-curious, but he never thought he’d pursue a guy, much less a guy who doesn’t seem to be interested in getting caught.

Leo is passionate about two things: gay rights activism and acting. He stays focused and in control, and he never, ever, dates straight guys. When a chance spin of a bottle at a party has him locking lips with Micah Springfield, president of the Delts, dread-headed, serial-dating, straight Micah, Leo is determined to forget about it, no matter how incendiary the sparks or how gorgeous Micah may be.

Leo has bigger problems. His senior project is directing Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream just before the Christmas break. When his venue cancels at the last minute, Micah offers the use of his parent’s barn in rural Pennsylvania. Leo’s play may be saved, but what about his heart? Between Micah’s sweet lips, his family’s welcoming arms, and a devious bulldog who is determined to play Puck, Leo may find himself falling under the spell of Christmas magic.

Review of Glasgow Lads Books 1 & 2 by Avery Cockburn

Playing for Keeps (Glasgow Lads Book 1)

Buylink: Amazon

Rule One: No Drama!

Fergus Taylor is damaged goods. Reeling from a brutal breakup, he’s determined to captain his LGBT soccer team out of scandal and into a winning season. For that, he needs strict rules and careful plans. He does NOT need a brash, muscle-bound lad messing with his head and setting his body afire.

John Burns has a rule of his own: Don’t get attached. Boyfriends are for guys with nothing to hide. Nobody—not his university mates, not the men he beds—knows his family’s shame. Now his double life is starting to unravel, thanks to a certain Highlander whose storm-riddled eyes turn John inside out, who wears a kilt like he was born in it.

Fergus is the first man John wants to share his secret with—but he’s the last man who could handle it. John knows the truth would shatter Fergus’s still-fragile heart. But how can he live a lie when he’s falling in love?

Note: The Glasgow Lads series contains dirty talk with a Scottish accent, naughty bits of a gay nature, and characters who call soccer “football.”

Review: What can I say about Fergus and John? Poor broken hearted John, and Fergus with all his secrets. Absolutely loved this book, and I am totally hooked on this series.

Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads Book 2)

Buylink: Amazon

Colin MacDuff has nothing. Growing up in a Glasgow slum, he learned never to trust, never to cry—and never EVER to be at the mercy of anyone, especially rich men. So how did he end up half-naked at a rave with Scotland’s hottest young aristocrat?

Lord Andrew Sunderland has everything. From ancestral castle to posh prep school, he’s spent his life wrapping others around his wee finger. With a social circle full of celebrities and politicians, nothing can stop Andrew’s rise to the top. Nothing, that is, save his desire for a dirt-poor, wolf-eyed footballer whose scars and tattoos tell unbearable tales.

Colin and Andrew come from different worlds, believe in different worlds, want different worlds. Yet every time they touch, all worlds fall away.

Set amid the fiery Scottish-independence struggle, this searing gay romance tells the story of two men who must lose everything to win each other's hearts.

Note: The Glasgow Lads series contains dirty talk with a Scottish accent, naughty bits of a gay nature, and characters who call soccer “football.”

Review: My absolute favourite of the series so far. Colin and Andrew's story is set against a momentous time in British History. A clash of classes, of ideals, and a love that overcomes all... *melts*. Seriously, this book should go on your buy list...

A tale of pride over prejudice on the soccer pitch kicks off this gay romance series set in Scotland

Duncan Harris is on the edge. Scandal has shredded his LGBT soccer team’s history-making season, and now the once-unflappable striker is lashing out. Only one person can tame Duncan’s rage and make him feel like himself again…

Bullied by schoolmates in his wee village, Brodie Campbell lurked deep in the closet before coming to the city of Glasgow. Here at university he’s out and proud, but the years of abuse have left him emotionally paralyzed. Can flatmate Duncan help Brodie escape his past and heal his wounded heart?

As the two lads grow closer, Brodie can’t forget how athletes like Duncan once tortured him. When Duncan attacks an opponent who threatens Brodie, the situation escalates. Soon Brodie doesn’t feel safe anywhere—especially in Duncan’s arms.

To defeat the bullies who’ve wrecked his life, his mind, and his ability to love, Brodie must find the strength to fight his own battles. And Duncan must find the strength to let him.

My Review: This book was gorgeous. Two 18 year old lads with a completely believable love story. Highly recommended. And I'm off to read the next one.

Letters from a cowboy - Sue Brown

Simon Wood arrives at Tamar Ranch looking for a job after being fired from his last position for seducing the boss's son. It doesn’t take much for him to prove his skills with horses, so he’s taken on, but soon he clashes hard with Chip Henson.

The animosity between them hides something very different, but not for long. No matter how hard they try to resist their attraction, eventually they give in to their need. They start leaving notes for each other, and others notice and warn them to be more careful.

Fearful of discovery, Simon leaves Tamar Ranch to save Chip’s job. When he learns that his departure sent Chip off the rails, he knows he needs to risk everything and go back for him.

Simon and Chip. A perfect love story that ties in so perfectly to the Morning Report series. A look back at a love story that had me crying at the end. A beautifully written book that looks at prejudice from contrasting angles and gave me the HEA I craved.

Review of Dancing Days by Clare London

Dancing Days
Buylinks: Dreamspinner: Amazon: All Romance

The day Glen Carson loses his wallet is the day that changes his life. The wallet is returned by Aston Walsh, a man he hasn't seen for twenty years. He and Aston had a passionate and intense romance when they were in their late twenties, and Glen thought their love would last forever. But his dreams were horribly shattered by a shocking confession from Aston, and they parted for good—or so Glen assumed. Now, two decades later, they’ve lived many years apart, created new histories, and built successful lives. Yet the spark between them is still there. Aston wants a second chance with Glen, but Glen is more cautious this time around. He has to decide if Aston's regret is genuine, and if surrendering his heart to Aston again is worth the risk.

Review:
Glen and Aston was such a perfection reunion story, and you all know how much I love Clare's writing. I've not really read a book where the two main characters met up again after such a long time had passed. At first, finding out they weren't in that first flush of love in their twenties was disquieting. I normally gravitate to stories of young strapping men and first love, and this was different and completely charming. There was a bittersweet sadness to hear what drove them apart the first time and a perfect 'rightness' in them finding each other again.

A gorgeous love story that should be read with a nice cuppa and no interuptions.

Misfits - Garret Leigh

Restaurant owner Tom Fearnes has loved his partner Cass for as long as he can remember, but their work often keeps them apart. When he meets a striking young man named Jake on the vibrant streets of Camden Town, their heady first encounter takes an unexpected turn.

Jake Thompson can hardly believe his luck when he wakes up in Tom’s bed. Tom is gorgeous, kind, and . . . taken.

Tom’s explanation of his open relationship leaves Jake cold, but Tom is too tempting, and when hard times force Jake to accept Tom’s helping hand, he finds himself between two men who’ve lost their way.

Cass Pearson is a troubled soul. He loves Tom with all he has, but some days it feels like he hasn’t much to give. Jake seems like the perfect solution.

Cass risks everything to push Jake and Tom together, but Jake resists, wary, until the darkness of Cass’s past comes to call. Then Jake finds himself the last man standing, and it’s time to dig deep and shine a light for the men he’s grown to love.

Review

When I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book I didn't know what to expect from it. Too many times when I read an MMM book it's all about as much sex as possible in as many combinations as possible. In fact I wrote an MMM way WAY back and yep, that is pretty much what it was, just a lot of sex... rofl...

Anyway, I digress. I love Garret's writing, she is an autobuy, and her work is stunningly visual. But still, MMM has to be about the sex, right? Wrong. I should have realised this was a book by THE Garret Leigh, so there is angst and tension and love and completion... and I loved it so much I couldn't put it down.

This book is about love, and finding each other, and learning to live, and realising just what connections can be made. It is thoughtful, and deep, and the focus on tourettes isn't a fourth character, it just exists as part of Jake. There is sex, but it isn't thrown in for no reason, it's part of who the three men are, as couples, or as the three of them together.

An amazing piece of writing. I'm still blown away by it now.

How To Howl At The Moon - Eli Easton

Sheriff Lance Beaufort is not going to let trouble into his town, no sir. Tucked away in the California mountains, Mad Creek has secrets to keep, like the fact that half the town consists of ‘quickened’—dogs who have gained the ability to become human. Descended on both sides from Border Collies, Lance is as alert a guardian as they come.

Tim Weston is looking for a safe haven. After learning that his boss patented all of Tim’s work on vegetable hybrids in his own name, Tim quit his old job. A client offers him use of her cabin in Mad Creek, and Tim sees a chance for a new start. But the shy gardener has a way of fumbling and sounding like a liar around strangers, particularly gorgeous alpha men like Sheriff Beaufort.
Lance’s hackles are definitely raised by the lanky young stranger. He’s concerned about marijuana growers moving into Mad Creek, and he’s not satisfied with the boy’s story. Lance decides a bit of undercover work is called for.

When Tim hits a beautiful black collie with his car and adopts the dog, its love at first sight for both Tim and Lance’s inner dog. Pretending to be a pet is about to get Sheriff Beaufort in very hot water.

Restless Spirits - Jordan L Hawk 5/5

After losing the family fortune to a fraudulent psychic, inventor Henry Strauss is determined to bring the otherworld under control through the application of science. All he needs is a genuine haunting to prove his Electro-Séance will work. A letter from wealthy industrialist Dominic Gladfield seems the answer to his prayers. Gladfield’s proposition: a contest pitting science against spiritualism, with a hefty prize for the winner.

The contest takes Henry to Reyhome Castle, the site of a series of brutal murders decades earlier. There he meets his rival for the prize, the dangerously appealing Vincent Night. Vincent is handsome, charming…and determined to get Henry into bed.

Henry can’t afford to fall for a spirit medium, let alone the competition. But nothing in the haunted mansion is quite as it seems, and soon winning the contest is the least of Henry’s concerns.

For the evil stalking the halls of Reyhome Castle wants to claim not just Henry and Vincent’s lives, but their very souls.

Review 5/5 and a highly recommended read

I adore Whyborne and Griffin, I love SPECTR even more and when I was sent Restless Spirits I wasn't sure Jordan could start another new series that would capture me as much as those two did. I was wrong. I was hooked from page one and time seemed to fly as I read the book. I love Henry and his skepticism and Vincent and his fire... just... perfect Jordan L Hawk.

p.s. Love the cover, my fave of all JLH covers. :)
