The Great Gay Rom Lit Losing Weight Initiative

Sighs. So. Being a writer is hazardous to health. You get to sit around all day eating biscuits and drinking tea and before you know it you are SCREWED...

I have 26 weeks to go until GRL and I would love to lose 56 pounds... Without giving too much away about my horrendous starting weight, that is not going to make me skinny... it's going to make me look like I actually care about myself instead of just sitting in my writing cave with said biscuits.

So. It starts today, 16 April 2013 and ends 15 October 2013 and I need to lose just over 2lb a week... I am upping the exercise, hiding the biscuits, and hoping for the best...

I am also using this cool app on my phone called MyFitnessPal... which tracks calories, carbs, fat, exercise and all kinds of clever things...

Wish me luck.. x

  1. Good luck RJ. I know you can do anything you set your mind too. I've lost 140lbs so far and only have another 20 to go to reach my goal... I wish I could be there to see you again at GRL, but I doubt that will come to pass with everything that's happened. I wish you all the luck in reaching your goal. *hugs*

  3. Great minds think alike! Yesterday I started a weight loss challenge at a local athletic club. It's twice a week. We focus on exercising and nutrition. There are 5 others in my class, all of whom are at least 20 years older than I am (I attribute that to the fact that it's at 9am, during the week), and our trainer, aside from being cute, is excellent. He's modified several of the exercises for me so that I can do them without 'upsetting' my stupid knee.
I have My Fitness Pal on my phone, and I'm trying to remember to use it. Feel free to add me if you'd like (mandy747).

    You can do this!

  4. MyFitnessPal is great! I used it to drop the weight I gained when I broke my foot and couldn't walk for two months. Best of luck with it, RJ. It's not easy to change one's diet, but once you're through the initial shock of change, it'll be totally worth it.

  5. Make it fun, make it easy and making yourself responsible to all of us is a great idea. That way we can support, encourage and tease you when we get the chance. hugs

  6. Hoorah! You're on the road to getting healthier, feeling better, having more energy and stamina, and will therefore be in a better place to write more of your great books for me to enjoy!

Oops, did that last part sound a tad selfish? Truth will out, I suppose. :)

    Hugs,
    Donna
