Fifteen years after his father kicks him out following years of abuse, Blake returns home with long-time partner Sullivan. Things aren't what he expects. Everything is different. His father isn't home, but his essence lingers. Could it ruin this Christmas?

Welcome to the  FIVE interview Nicole…

Your five favourite…

Authors and how they inspired you…

  1. Nora Roberts – Pretty much everything about all her writing inspires me. I collect all of her books. I adore her trilogies of families, the characters she creates, and the relationships she builds.
  2. Sherrilyn Kenyon – the battle she went through just to get published in the first place gives hope to any writer! Then there are the gorgeous men (swoon!) and the fabulous ladies she created to love them and keep them in line.
  3. Laurell K Hamilton – has two heroines who aren’t afraid to kick-butt, show weakness, and have sex.
  4. JK Rowling – again the battle she went through to get published! Wow! So inspirational to any writer. And her imagination, the world behind HP and his friends, I adore it every time I open one of the books.
  5. JR Ward – I’m a relative newcomer to her books, but quickly fell in love with her fabulous hunks – both vampires and angels.
Books in general

Just 5? I can’t name 5 single books??? How about series???
  1. Series 1 – JD Robb’s In Death – One word – ROARKE! Hello!
  2. Series 2 – Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter Series and spin-offs – Crack open any book of this series and you’ll see why any paranormal lover goes nuts for her handsome hunters.
  3. Series 3 – JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood – same with Sherrilyn, just need to crack open and dive into this series and you’ll be hooked.
  4. Series 4 – Harry Potter – not only was it a damn good series, it got kids to love reading again!
  5. Series 5 – Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel Series – an intriguing mix of passion, a twist of history, a touch of BDSM in the earlier ones, and gorgeous storytelling. Each set is a trilogy, but they’re all set in the same world and build on the previous series.
Movies
  1. Labyrinth – by Jim Henson – yes with David Bowie... Still, the movie is wonderful to watch, mixture of puppets and people, fantasy, dreams, and ahh... Still love it.
  2. Dark Crystal – another Jim Henson film – all puppets on this one – those dark creatures are soooooo creepy, but one I always love to watch.
  3. Avatar – yeah, I’m a avid fan of this movie.
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean – all of them!! – hey, it’s Johnny Depp!
  5. Beauty & the Beast – Disney – my all time favourite Disney movie. I love Belle, she’s a reader like me!
TV Shows
  1. Law & Order – when I’m bored, I always click on one of this series and let the marathon play. I’m an inner geek when it comes on. You never know when you get a good idea out of a show.
  2. Charmed – 3 sisters get to kick butt – I liked it much better with Paige, than Prue.
  3. Grimm – a new show, but I’m enjoying it.
  4. Once Upon a Time – another new show, can’t believe they killed the hunky Sheriff, but still I’m enjoying it.
  5. Terra Nova – humans killed the planet in future, but have chance to go back to time of dinosaurs and start again. Of course there are a few issues. I loved the first season and hope there will be more!!

Blurb
Kicked out after graduation by his strict, abusive father, Blake Denton didn’t return home for fifteen years. Now a psychiatrist and counselor to the GLBT community, he found forgiveness and love with his long-time partner, Sullivan Fitzgerald, and a home in Vermont. A phone call to his mother to wish her happy holidays ends with a plea for a visit home. This time, with Sully’s support, they drive to the farm and spend Christmas with his family. Things have changed since he left. All of his younger siblings have married and are parents. His mother is standing on her own at the door. His father isn’t within the home, but the memories of years of abuse linger everywhere. Can it ruin the first Christmas Blake has with his family?

Excerpt:
Fifteen years had slid by since Blake Denton last drove this winding route. For some reason, this path off the country lane that led to the old-fashioned farmhouse seemed to have lengthened since that long-ago night. His knuckles whitened around the steering wheel, gripping it harder than needed to control the SUV. The tires hit a pothole the shock absorbers couldn't quite handle.

"Holy crap, Blake! Isn't this thing paved?" Sullivan Fitzgerald cursed and grabbed the oh shit bar on his side of the car.

"Never. Around a farm, they put money where it's needed most." Blake maneuvered around another pothole in the driveway. Rather, he maneuvered around the ones he could see under the layers of snow. "Around here, everyone has big-ass trucks and Jeeps to handle this kind of shit, or they're on tractors, which roll over anything in their path. They probably don't even know about them."

Sully grumbled and flexed his fingers around the handle when the SUV rocked.

Blake glanced at his partner and lover. Peeling his fingers from the steering wheel, he reached down for Sully's hand. Their fingers entwined. "I wouldn't make this trip without your support, Sully."

"Taking a step forward and driving down to backwater, small-town North Carolina to start over with your family," Sully said.

"Does anyone know we're coming?"

"Just my mother."

"Did she tell anyone else?"

"I asked her not to, considering Dad's reaction to when I left fifteen years ago."
