“Is everything okay?” Josh asked, worry etched in the lines of his brow.

“I… ahh… yeah. I’ll be back in a minute.” Charlie stood, pushing his chair back from the table. Without giving himself time to think, he headed toward the couple who had raised him and then so easily tossed him away. Although apprehensive, he had an incredible urge to reach out and touch his parents, the little boy still inside him somehow hoping that, like him, they’d be flooded with warm memories and they’d realize their mistake and welcome him with open arms.
