“You okay?” Tanner reached across and touched the top of Andrew’s hand, his fingers stroking a soft rhythm.
“Huh?” Andrew pulled himself out of his reverie. “Sorry. Yeah. Just thinking.”
Tanner raised an eyebrow and waited for him to continue.
“I just worry. About everything, really. I worry that I won’t do right by Josh, that I’ll fail, that I’ll let him down. He’s already got into some scrapes like with the shoplifting, but then I was just backing Dad up. Dad and I were like a team, you know? Now it’s just me. I made Josh a promise. I promised I’d always take care of him, that I’d always be here. What if I can’t keep that promise?” Andrew looked at Tanner. Seeking reassurance? Wanting to know he wasn’t alone, that someone else cared?
“You’ll do fine, Drew. The main thing Josh needs is to know he has family, that he’s loved, and you have love in abundance. Even when your dad was still here, you played a huge role in Josh’s life and nothing about that has changed. You might have more legal responsibility and be doing it on your own now, but you’ve always taken care of Josh, and you always will.”
Andrew’s eyes filled at Tanner’s words, and he felt the tension slowly dissipate.

Nic Starr lives in Australia where she tries to squeeze as much into her busy life as possible. Balancing the demands of a corporate career with raising a family and writing can be challenging but she wouldn't give it up for the world.
Always a reader, the lure of m/m romance was strong and she devoured hundreds of wonderful m/m romance books before eventually realising she had some stories of her own that needed to be told!
When not writing or reading, she loves to spend time with her family-an understanding husband and two beautiful daughters-and is often found indulging in her love of cooking and planning her dream home in the country.
