The Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia (HAHAT) was created to spread awareness of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, and to stand together as a writer community against discrimination of our works.

I have a phobia. It's one that a lot of people share. Arachnophobia was what I labelled it when I was younger. Those moments where you freeze in abject fear when you see the scuttling legs and the yucky bodies hurtling towards you. It's irrational, especially in the UK when there aren't really any killer spiders. What I really have is a hatred of spiders. The way they look, the way they run, the way they hide in washing.

I can't understand why the word phobia is even connected to the hatred that is often found towards things we don't like or understand.

Homophobia isn't a phobia... it's an excuse and justification for hatred.

    It's good that more awareness and acceptance is coming about. 20 years ago this last February I lost a friend who couldn't deal with life as a homosexual.     This is very moving for me. Just lost my sister who was a lesbian. I miss her so much. No matter what people said to her about being with someone of the same sex she proudly held her head up. She was a great inspiration to all of us. This is a wonderful blog post <3

    It's totally an excuse for hatred. I have arachnophobia, meaning that I freeze when I see a spider and a cold wave of shivers rush over my body (good thing I live in Iceland!). I very much doubt "homophobes" get that when they see two people of the same sex holding hands. What they DO fear, however, is that it will become such a commonplace practice that people will accept it without a second thought.

    The fear comes from insecurity and lack of confidence in one's own identity. If you're focused on who you are and loving your family, you don't have time to bring other people down.

    It was interesting. I heard a lecture about 'homosexual panic' which was used in an attempt to deny men to do jobs like being stewards. It was explained that if men took care of make passengers, give them blankets, and take care of their needs - especially when the stewards looked femme, male passengers would realise their own same sex attraction and freak out in the middle of the flight. Thus employing gay males for the job was considered a risk. ...
