The Book

A standalone, English Hearts story.

A rich playboy who lives for the now, and a Veterinarian who is ruled by his past, both seek a future that allows for love.

Ashby Sterling-Haynes, the youngest son of a titled family, has had a lot of hook ups, but has never found someone worth keeping. When he meets introverted Veterinarian, Connor Lawson, he realizes this could be the man he's been waiting for.

Connor has a painful past and no room for an entitled rich guy in his future. Ashby is everything that Connor dislikes in a man and is way too sexy to be anything but a disruption to Connor’s peaceful life.

Then he realised who it was.

So much for peace.

Ash pulled up the run right next to him. And more of that naked chest was seemingly thrust into Connor’s world. “Hey,” he said by way of greeting. He didn’t even sound out of breath.

“You’re a runner,” Connor noted. And why the hell did I say that? Because I’m stupid around Ash’s naked chest, that’s why.

Ash looked down at himself. “Uhm, yeah.”

They stood in uncomfortable silence for a few seconds, but then both spoke at once.

“I wanted to apologise—”

“I’m sorry—”

They both stopped. Connor waited. Something about the expression on Ash’s face spoke to him. There was concern there, and embarrassment.

“I’m sorry if us kissing at the surgery was inappropriate.” Ash spoke formally, which was at odds with the bare chest, barely there running shorts and the glistening sweat that was over every inch of his lithe body, well the inches that Connor could see, anyway.

“And I’m sorry if I judged you without knowing you.”

Ash appeared to consider the statement. “Will you tell me why you did?”

Connor shook his head rigorously.

Another impasse. Ash stepped into his space and he smelled of sunshine. Connor held himself rigid. Quickly Ash pressed another kiss to Connor’s lips, backed off and began to leave, jogging backwards for a while.

“Never said sorry meant I wouldn’t kiss you again,” he said with a laugh. Then he ran through an arch in the wall to the Grange and disappeared.

Yet again Connor was left astonished at the audacity and more than halfway turned-on by the action.

“Arsehole,” he muttered. Then, pivoting on his heel, his peace well and truly destroyed, he went back to his car.

Confident, sexy, arrogant Ash was seriously fucking with his head and was way too much like Tristan. He was halfway through the woods when he stopped as a sudden thought crossed his mind.

So why doesn’t him being in my space freak me out? Why was he the first man to get close since everything happened that didn’t make Connor want to run? What was it about Ash and all his cockiness that wasn’t quite the same as those others?

Connor crouched down as all his energy left him in one heavy exhale.

The others.

Planning the shit out of 2016

I am a planner. Give me an Excel spreadsheet and I am like a pig in shit. Add in notebooks and diaries and I am in seventh heaven!

I have today sat and planned by 2016 writing. This has been impacted greatly by me inserting Texas 7, and by various emails and comments I see that make me consider what I might write next.

Some of the things that have been included:

LEGACY

A new series, Legacy, three books called Gabriel (#1), Kyle (#2), and Danny (#3). These are an ofshoot from my Texas series and are based around the three men who gave evidence at the trial of Hank Castille in Texas Fall. I couldn't leave these guys alone, they all want their own stories. Of course Riley and Jack make an appearance... Danny (#3) will be my Christmas 2016 book.

MONTANA

Montana 1, Crooked Tree Ranch, is back to me in November and will be re-released with a couple of added chapters and also a full re-edit. I am so excited about this - I have been carrying the story of book 2, The Rancher's Son, in my head for over two years now! There will also be a Montana 3, but the title is as yet undecided!

SANCTUARY

And then there is Sanctuary. I am in the middle of writing Sanctuary 8, Accidental Hero, and this is book 1 in a trilogy of books Sanctuary 8, 9 and 10). All three will be with you in 2016.

HEROES & ENGLISH HEARTS

As will Deacon's Law. Poor DL got pushed back so many times for various reasons. As has Sixways Lane! Don't worry, both will be with you in 2016.

I realised I haven't left space for Bodyguards 6... mutters to self about slotting it in somewhere...

So the list in the general order that I plan to write and release is:

2015

Texas Wedding (Texas 7)
Accidental Hero (Sanctuary 8)
Love's Design (Bodyguards 5)
Crooked Tree Ranch (Montana 1 - re-release)

2016

The Rancher's son (Montana 2)
Untitled (Sanctuary 9)
Deacon's Law (Heroes 3 - last in the series)
Gabriel (Legacy #1)
Sixways Lane (English Hearts #2)
Untitled (Montana 3 - last in the series)

Untitled (Sanctuary 10)
Kyle (Legacy #2)
Untitled (Bodyguards 6 - last in the series)
Danny (Legacy #3)

I really hope I have covered everyones favourite series books... I don't think I have any room to slot any more in! ROFL...

And don't even get me started on slotting in the co-authoring!

The Sumner House - Reader Review...

I have had some lovely reviews on The Summer House, but this one just jumped out at me... from a reader on Amazon.com... A review from a reader is just as vital asone from a reviewer or blogger, and I love every single one of them. So thank you to Bo, who left this wonderful review, which I paste here untouched.

Wonderful Series Opener
By Bo on June 8, 2015
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

When RJ Scott decides to create a new set of characters and weave them into a series, watch out! You will be screaming at her and her publisher as the end of the first book to get on with it, already--give us more!

What a bunch of English city mouse/country mouse characters this one tosses at us. The sweet natured, but distinctly uptight, tall, blond, broad shouldered gay but not rainbow waving village veterinarian, Connor Lawson; and the cheeky, athletic, openly gay, rakish, promiscuous, and not-to-be-denied Ashby Sterling-Haynes. Both are perfectly portrayed on the cover.

This one sneaks around and lets you into Connor's head, but not all the way there to explain why he is so antagonistic to rich gay boys. However, it does not pussyfoot around when it comes to describing the Sterling-Haynes family, which turns out to be somewhat more level headed than one would expect from such a titled and apparently very loaded clan.

Along the way we come to know Connor's best friend, Rachel, who sets the tone for the book right in the first chapter, and one or two other village characters, including two who will become the subjects of the next one in the series.

You will laugh, you will wipe away a tear or two, you will want to strangle Connor and Ash every once in a while, but you will sail right through this one like you will most of Scott's books--and come away with an appetite for more, which she is promising us. Damn good idea.

Round up of WIPs and New releases

My latest book The Summer House, is doing well over on All Romance and Amazon, thank you to everyone who has bought it!

I loved writing it and I already have the story for the next on the same theme of English Hearts - titled Sixways Lane.

Out this Friday is Retrograde - the first in a set of linked by theme books from myself, Sara York, Clare London, Meredith Russell, Serena Yates and Amber Kell.

Released, one a week, the first one is mine on 12 June, and we end on 17 July with Amber. The stories are based around a plane crash, and how people's lives are changed because of it. The co-pilot, the observer, the guy who misses the plane, the engineer, the person afraid to fly... I hope you enjoy

What's coming up from RJ

My current WIP is Undercover Lovers from the Bodyguards Inc series (book 4) and will be with you end July.

Next up is Accidental Hero which is Sanctuary *season 2*. This starts a new story arc in the Sanctuary Universe and is Sanctuary book 8 and the book will be with you end August.

Then, we have the furst in the Billionaires Club series which will be out end September - a trilogy of novellas based around three men who are too rich and too sexy for their own good and the men who show them what love can really be like.

After that? Well I have Bodyguards Inc book 5, and of course Montana books 2 and 3, Sixways Lane (another English Hearts novel).

What's coming up from RJ and co-authors

August 14th is the date for the final book in the Sapphire Cay series - Forever In The Sun, a wedding, a storm and a love that reaches from the past.

The new series with Sue Brown begins in October - Kings Heart Hospital is the place for sexy romance, love and intrigue and the first book will be out early October - in time for GRL!

And, my MF book is a WIP with Amber, and we've had big discussions about the direction it is taking... so if you read MF as well as MM, watch this space.

Not to mention Amber and I have End Street book 5 out November :) more news to follow...

Crystals Many Reviewers - 4/5 - "I was pleasantly surprised that this new series has such a different feel than Texas does. I know, Texas and England are an ocean apart (literally) and should feel different. But this is not always the case when an author writes within the same genre, which in this case is M/M Contemporary Romance. Please don’t take that as a complaint either, because I often enjoy the familiarity such a writing style provides. But in the case of The Summer House I enjoyed the difference immensely and Ashby and Connor have already taken up residence in my reading heart."

Nautical Star Books - 4/5 - "....The setting that the author creates in The Summer House is incredibly vivid.  RJ Scott is a writer who can paint a mental picture like few others can.  The breathtaking countryside, the small village, it’s inhabitants and the old buildings just come to life in this book.  You can almost see the green fields and the rough stones of the old church as you read this story.

I didn’t like Connor at first.  I thought he was judging Ash unfairly and had a chip on his shoulder.  However, as you read The Summer House you come to learn more and more of his history and finally understand WHY he hates rich playboys as much as he does.  He tries so hard to stay away from Ash but these two guys are just drawn to one another.

Let me just say that the secondary characters in The Summer House are amazing.  And the secondary characters that RJ Scott creates are so much more than just background noise in this story!  I just about cried over Mick and Bessie’s story.  Truly amazing details that the author puts into this book!

The Summer House is more about the romance than the sex.  This couple is drawn to one another and there is definite heat there but they are slow to act on it.  When they do, though, it is beautiful and romantic and steamy all rolled into one.

The Summer House by RJ Scott is truly a beautiful love store about overcoming your fears, finding love, and forging a new future.  Definitely a book I recommend for lovers of M/M romance!...."

The Summer House - 6 days to go...

More information... The Summer House

Sixways Lane (English Hearts #2) - Cover Art Reveal

My current WIP is the first in the English Hearts series and I have just had cover art for book 2 from the wonderful Meredith Russell... so i thought I would share.

Blurb to follow...

My Inspiration Wall

I am lucky enough to have an office (aka converted dining room) and on the wall above my PC is my inspiration. Anyone that know me will know that I LOVE my cover art and that it inspires me. What you may not know is that I like, if I can, to have the cover art first. This inspires my writing no end and also means my guys descriptions match the cover. Of course the process of choosing the cover models is hard but it's just something i have to do (ROFL!).

On the top row are my released books (Heroes  and Bodyguards series). The second row is my WIP.

In order, I am writing The Summer House (English Hearts #1) next, then Undercover Lovers (Bodyguards Inc #4), then Deacon's Law (Heroes 3).

You'll also see signed pictures from Jordan L Hawk who I fangirled TO DEATH at GRL... poor girl.

There is also fan art from Karrie Jax who took a quote from Guarding Morgan (Sanctuary book 1) and made me some gorgeous art.

I don't fall in love on a whim. In fact, I've never been in love. For me this could well be my forever. I want it to to be your forever, too.

I also have a shelf for my print books (bottom left) but it's only a small shelf and I have run out of room... :O Oh and I have a calendar with my cover art on it currently showing The Barman and the SEAL (Ellery book 7) and Deacon's Law.

What do you think of my space?

Cover Art Reveal

Received new cover art for The Summer House (see below!) from the wonderful Meredith Russell. A book set in the beautiful Cotswolds, around an hour from my house! Stunning cover for book 1 - more details to follow and coming to an e-reader near you 29 May! [Add to Goodreads]

Ashby Sebastian Sterling-Haynes has had a lot of boyfriends, but he's never found the one.

The only person he can form an attachment to is his fourteen year old niece, and even that is in jeopardy when babysitting her cat goes all kinds of wrong.

Veterinarian, Connor Lawson is much happier working with animals than with people. He has deliberately returned home and to the Summer House he recalled from childhood holidays for peace and quiet and the chance to heal from wounds no one would ever see.

When his next door neighbor comes into the practice with a cat that has been in a fight he hides in his office because this Ashby guy is all kinds of dangerous. Too hot, too rich, too titled, and way too sexy for his own good.

Can two men who refuse to believe in love ever learn that love is the easy part of the journey to forever?
