Texas Gift (Texas #8) Review Update

Love Bytes Reviews

"I remember the first time I read The Heart of Texas, and I thought this is the most ridiculous, unbelievable, over-the-top, made for television plot that I’ve ever read. I promptly bought the next two books (because that’s all that was released at the time) and I still drag them out to re-read every now and again. Of course, my collection has grown to include every new book in the series, a series that I believed ended with book #7. But I’m guessing that just like her readers, R.J. Scott has trouble letting go of Riley and Jack and their whole extended adopted family.

This is a series that needs to be read in order from the beginning. For readers who already love this series, well, I don’t need to sell this story to you. In fact, why are you even sitting here reading this review? You should already be over at Amazon (or whichever store you prefer) buying Texas Gift and indulging in the Campbell-Hayes family – just one last time."

"Synopsis: So I am going to admit, right here, didn’t read it at first. Seriously, this series is an auto-buy. The blurb was right to the point, not too many details but you know where this story is going.

Plot: I love the plot, it’s final part of the story and was full of twists and turns as Jack & Riley grew and as their family grew up too. The plot was around their family and how things change as everyone gets older. I’ll be doing a re-read of the whole series as soon as I can.

Main Characters: Let’s just say, I want my Jack. Riley and Jack are smoother, older and still as hot and sexy as ever.

Secondary Characters: Their children grow in this episode and they definitely added to the story. The other characters who have played a part in previous novels were more muted, the core family took centre stage and it was beautiful."

"Never read an RJ Scott book prior to work, where your makeup is fixed, and you’re about to start your day. Tears streamed from my eyes and down my cheeks at the eloquent story telling Ms. Scott bestowed upon us in Texas Gift.

The path Ms. Scott chose for each character fit the puzzle of life and completed it as a woven tapestry, each part dependent on each other, yet independent on its own.

Life does move forward, even in the books we know and love, and sadly everything ends at some point.

Thank you, Ms. Scott, for allowing your fans to become a part of the Campbell-Hayes family; to grow with them, cry with them, laugh with them. But more importantly, to love them."

"What is totally clear in the book, is the love between Jack and Riley, which only seems to get stronger the more years they are together. Add into this the love they have for their children, and this is one family that just keeps growing and growing.

The Texas series is one that I would highly recommend as a must buy. Once you start reading, you will not want to stop, so find a nice quiet place and be taken away into the land of Jack and Riley, and the rest of their family on the D."

Deacon's Law (Heroes #3) Reviews Update

Jim's Reading Room

"Wow. Just... wow. Deacon's Law is in-expletive deleted-credible.

RJ Scott has done it again, or should I say, as usual. She continually turns out page-turner after page-turner.

The plot bunny for Deacon's Law might just as well have been yanked from the news headlines. The story would definitely make an awesomely awesome movie of the week."

MM Good Book Reviews

"This is another fantastic addition to the Heroes series and the characters are an excellent addition to R.J. Scott’s hot, sexy and dangerous men...

I recommend this to those who love stories that are filled with action and danger, who adore characters who soul search and discover forgiveness, who love two men falling in love during extreme situations, and a fantastic ending that has you hungering for more."

Making It Happen

"RJ Scott certainly does romantic suspense well…Deacon’s Law has action, tension, suspense, one crazy as a loon bad guy, and of course right alongside it all, a burgeoning romance between the main characters. It’s all done realistically and with enough left unknown for most of the story to keep the tension high—along with Deacon and Rafe’s emotions."

Wicked Reads

"This is the third book in an absolutely excellent series – and by far my favourite so far! Ms. Scott has done a fantastic job of combining a believable and passionate romance in a really intense and suspenseful story. It was also good to meet up with Sam and Mac, who lead in Last Marine Standing, and particularly poignant when Rafe needs a reality check."

Padme's Library

"...if you are like me and have been waiting for this tale for a couple of years you won't be disappointed and if this series is entirely new to you well, you'll love it too....if you're asking should you read Deacon's Law(or the Heroes Trilogy as a whole) my answer can be summed up in two little words: HELL YEAH!"

Embracing My Crazy

"If you've never read an RJ Scott book, you need to know that she often writes about tortured characters. Yes, there will be some tears. However, she always finds a way to share the pain of the characters, without exploiting their trauma. Their traumas are never seen as a weakness. Instead, we always see a character that struggles, but ultimately finds their peace through the love and acceptance of their loved ones, and their love and acceptance of themselves.

I love that about her work. So, I was thrilled to read this book and discover Deacon's Law is filled with moment after moment of each of these men doing the emotional work needed, both individually, and as a unit, to find their footing in the world.

Oh, and there's a lot of action, and fun sexy times too."

The Book

Undercover cop Deacon Shepherd lost everything trying to maintain his cover - the man he loved and the future he craved. He walked away and never looked back because it was the only way to keep Rafael alive.

The last thing he needs is to be dragged back in that world, but an attempt on Rafael's life is enough to make him risk his heart again.

Rafael 'Rafe' Ramirez wakes up in hospital, the victim of a hit and run. He’s stunned when the first face he sees is that of the man who betrayed him and left him for dead three years before. Witness protection had stripped Rafe of his family and friends and now it seems his sacrifice to bring his Uncle to justice was for nothing.

Someone wants Rafe dead and the only way he can stay alive is to go with the murdering drug dealer who broke his heart. But how can he ever trust Deacon, and how can Deacon protect Rafe without falling in love all over again?

The Book

A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.

When he wakes up in the hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can't remember anything to help... except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Two words, and they're not much, but it's a start: Crooked Tree.

Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads, he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn't his brother, but it's someone who could maybe help him discover what happened twelve years ago.

What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could destroy any kind of future they may have together.

The Book

An actor in the closet, a sheriff in love, and memories that won’t stay hidden.

Jordan Darby is known as the King of Christmas. The star of eight made-for-TV Christmas movies, the leading man who always gets his girl. Filming at Crooked Tree Ranch in Montana, in the ice and snow, Jordan is fighting to make a go of his new company and dealing with fears of exposure over one huge secret. After all, who the hell would buy into him being a romantic straight lead if rumors about him being gay were proven to be true?

Sheriff Ryan Carter is advising on the new movie being made at Crooked Tree. He hoped this would be one day of work and nothing more. Until, that is, he meets the hero. But while Jordan is sexy, he’s also very much stuck in the closet—everything that Ryan doesn’t need in his life. And then lust becomes part of the equation, and Ryan’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil.

Their story unfolds against the chaos that overtakes the ranch, with Adam regaining memories that terrify him and make him look at Justin differently, and Justin leaving the ranch to make things right. Only through trusting in love and friendship can Justin and Adam learn to look to the future instead of letting the past destroy everything. But will they ever see clearly enough to do that?

Book 1 - Crooked Tree Ranch
Book 2 - The Rancher's Son
Book 3 - A Cowboy's Home
Book 4 - Snow in Montana

Fantastic first reviews in for Snow in Montana

I am absolutely blown away by the wonderful first reviews I've received for Snow In Montana. Everyone mentions the families and the romance, and revisiting with Adam and Justin.

A couple of people have asked me about a book 5... there will definitely be a book 5 - coming Summer 2017 :)

Here are a selection of the reviews the book has received so far:

USA Today - "....I love all of the characters who are brought together to protect, love and solve the mystery surrounding Justin and Adam. I’m so crazy about the Sullivans, Allens, Strachans, Todds, Carters and now the Darbys that it feels like I have met them and know their personalities. I recommend this series and the newest book in particular. Settle in your favorite reading chair with a cup of hot cocoa or wassail and prepare to be highly entertained. Again....."

Dog Eared Daydreams - 5/5 - "....I loved how we got a new love story while having the rest of the couples' stories come full circle. There's a short story, aptly title Montana Short Story, that's available for free on the author's website and I think it serves quite well as a prologue to Snow in Montana. Ryan and Jordan's romance wasn't angst-ridden--which I appreciated, what with Christmas just a less than three weeks away--and I liked that there wasn't all this unnecessary drama when Jordan's sexuality came to light. Aside from romantic love and acceptance, the always present series theme of family and friendship remains at the forefront of this fourth and maybe final novel, which are all part and parcel of why I've fallen in love with these men and each of their heartwarming stories. Snow in Montana receives five stars...."

Bayou Book Junkie - 5/5 - "....There was a lot packed into these pages that made me simultaneously want to keep reading and take a break! It's packed full of love, fighting, drama and friendship. I really liked Ryan's brother's and I really hope as this series continues that I get to see them find the rest of the guy's HEA, especially Saul's!...."

Archaeolibrarian - 5/5 - "....Snow in Montana is not a Christmas book, but it holds all the feel-good factors that you can get at this time of year. I say it's not a Christmas book as although the story starts with a Christmas Romance Film being made, the story actually takes place throughout the year. This is book 4 in the series, and as such, I would highly recommend that you read the previous 3 books, simply because they are absolutely brilliant, and you will also get the most out of them...."

Xtreme Delusions - 5/5 - "....If you’ve read the other Montana books you will absolutely not want to miss this one. If you haven’t read the others I highly recommend them as they are very compelling reads with interesting and complicated characters...."

Making it happen - "....Snow in Montana was an excellent, 5-star read for me, and I do highly recommend it.  I do strongly recommend that it be read as part of the series in order as there is a lot that goes on in this story that builds on everything that came in the first three books of the series.  If you're a fan of the series, you DO NOT want to miss this one.  If you haven't started the series yet, you're really missing out on an amazing group of characters!  This is one of my favorite M/M romance series, and it is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content...."

November 2016 Review Round-up

In this roundup post, we have three books with some great reviews.  First up is Snow & Secrets published by All Romance.  This is an M/M Romance title and Book 3 in the Stanford Creek Series. Although the Books 1 and 2 are M/F titles, this is a stand-alone story that can be read independently.

Second is The Code - I've been really pleased with the way The Code has been received, and the reviews have been wonderful. Writing in this new world of Hockey was challenging and exciting at the same time. Book 2 is out Spring 2017, so I hope it's as well received :)

And finally, A Cowboy's Home - The Montana series has gone from strength to strength, and book 4 is out on 7th December. So excited :)

Please use the links above to jump to the reviews your interested in.

Snow and Secrets

Books Laid Bare Boys - "....I enjoyed his book very much. It was a little predictable and cliched in parts, but sometimes you just want a comfort read. The good thing about RJ Scott is that she writes well so her plot lines and story flow properly and attention to detail means you don’t have to worry about typos and mistakes. The support characters are well constructed and relevant, and well written descriptions bring the story to life. The sex is steamy without being too graphic and you really get a good sense about how Tyler and Garrett feel about each other as their journey progresses. This was an engaging and enjoyable book...."

Gay Book Reviews - 5/5 - "....This was a wonderful read filled full of two men trying to escape their realities of life for some wound licking and solitude. Not only do they get that but they get each other too, which is way better. I enjoyed reading their journey and watching both men come back to life because of each other. This book was even better because of the fantasy come true for both men because they both have had certain fantasies about he other...."

Dog-Eared Daydreams - 4.5/5 - "....I liked the suspense thriller of this new installment to the series, what with Garrett working for the government and all. His story with Tyler is the kind that those of us who have celebrity crushes could only dream of. There's a connection between them but it's one that's fostered during their time together in the cabin and not a case of insta-love. Aside from the suspense and romance elements, this book highlighted the importance of family and how the support both Tyler and Garrett get from their respective siblings are able to keep them grounded and centered. I hope Justin Campbell's story is up next, followed by Kyle Mercer's. I'm giving Snow & Secrets 4.5 stars...."

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words - 4/5 - "....Its not just the main characters we get to fall in love with. No, RJ Scott (as she is always so good at), gives us a cast of believable warm human beings to pull close around us like a comfortable, snug blanket.  We connect with everyone here.  Sisters, brothers, friends…enough that, even though this works as a standalone story, you want to go back and read the other stories because Stanford Creek has become real and inviting.  And yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing next.  Gong to pick up and dive into the stories I missed next...."

Diverse Reader - ".... There’s a little suspense to this story and a lot of love and acceptance and above all there’s a great support for both of these guys.

I liked this book and was entertained throughout! I have a few questions that, like I said earlier, I feel the other books might have the answers to so I'll be checking those out...."

Making it happen - 4.5/5 - "....Snow & Secrets was a 4.5-star read for me, just missing that last half-star for the HFN over an HEA.  It's a really great read, and I definitely recommend it to any M/M romance fan 18+ (for adult language and M/M sexual content).  Oh, and now I really want to install a hot tub...and wouldn't mind if Tyler and Garrett were included in it...."

The Code

Carly's Book Reviews - 4/5 - "....Four stars to RJ for drawing me in, making me fall in love with her characters, and keeping me rooting for the home team...."

Jen's Corner Spot - "....Really cute story, good, well thought out characters and great beginning. Can't wait to read more in the series...."

Lustful Literature - 4/5 - "....If I had to choose my absolute favorite type of book, hands down it will always be a hockey romance.  I am a lover of the sport and there is just something about this type of book that I absolutely love.  But with that being said, I am a very picky reader  when it comes to my Hot Hockey Hunks and have to say I enjoyed Ryan and Kat’s story...."

Dog-Eared Daydreams - 4.5/5 - "....The Code was a good series starter, introducing readers to other members of the Ice Dragons hockey team as well as several marked members of Kat's team at her fire station plus giving an interesting story that was about finally being honest about one's feelings and going after that happily-ever-after. The book was also about family and about being part of a team. I enjoyed Kat and Ryan's story and found both them and their love story easy to get into. This was a promising beginning to Ice Dragons, and I look forward to more! The Code gets 4.5 out of five stars...."

Foxylutely Books! - 4/5 - "....Overall I really enjoyed this and if the romance had come in that little bit sooner with a touch more angst and drama then this would surely have been a five star read. I would definitely recommend it though and look forward to the next book in the series. Four stars...."

The Opinionated Woman's Musings - 4/5 - "....This book got many hearts as it did because of Ryan. He was rough and tough on the outside, but tender and sweet on the inside. He had been in love with Kat for years but never thought he was good enough. I like that he decided to bite the bullet and go after what he wanted. He let her set the pace and didn’t pressure her to commit until she was ready...."

A Page To Turn Reviews - 5/5 - "....Guys. Sports romance generally isn’t my thing.  That’s largely because sports as a whole aren’t my thing.  But then hockey happened and I can’t get enough of it, so when I saw this book, I was absolutely dying to read it!  I mean, really.  Can it get any better than an adorable love story and hot hockey players?  I think not!  The characters were real and refreshing, and the situation (minus the hockey) was one I know from experience.  Despite the fact that my brother is younger than me, he’s fiercely protective and protective brothers have a way of scaring off any and all romantic prospects.  There’s also this unwritten rule that somehow makes you off limits to your brother’s friends.  All of that was completely real in this story and I loved how easy it was to relate to!  I also loved the characters.  It’s so easy for a love story to focus on physical attraction and superficial love.  But because Kat and Ryan have a history, it allowed a great deal more substance in this love story.  They really did have the chance to love each other for all that they were and all that they weren’t....."

Nicole's Book Musings - 4/5 - "....I was drawn to this book because Ryan is a hockey player and I love hockey books. It has also has one of my favorite troupes brother's best friend/brother's sister. It's great story where this hockey team has a code they live by,but Ryan sure would to break the rule of not dating his best friend's sister. I guess you could say this book also has my favorite troupe of friends to lover because Ryan and Kathryn have been friends forever and growing up Ryan was like a second brother. You can feel the sexual tension between the two. The struggle to keep their relationship in the friend zone, but the sparks are to hot to deny...."

Making it happen - 4.5/5 - "....While I've read many of RJ Scott's M/M books and loved them, this is the first of her M/F stories that I've tried.  Verdict?  She's just as good on this side, and I'm excited to continue following the Ice Dragons series as it unfolds!  The brother's best friend/best friend's sister trope is always a favorite-you've got an entwined past and a built-in tension already established, and now add to this that's it's a hockey romance too?  My boxes were getting ticked off left and right...."

Wicked Reads - "....Yes! This is what I hoped for when one of my favourite m/m writers started writing m/f romance. We still have a wonderfully intense leading man, but this time he is perfectly matched with a fiercely independent woman...." - Please click the link for all the reviews by Wicked Reviews

A Cowboy's Home

Diverse Reader - "....This is a hurt/comfort read that was phenomenally done and kept my interest the whole time. The drama part of the story was well told and made Justin’s disappearance and the fact that he stayed away believable. The man had been manipulated in his grief over the loss of his best friend. The passion between these two complex men is heat and love all rolled into one...."

The Novel Approach - "....To get the full dynamics of the Montana series, read Crooked Tree Ranch and The Rancher’s Son, then A Cowboy’s Home. It isn’t just a quick falling in love story between Sam and Justin. It’s a story about two men who have to heal and put the past behind them and move forward. It’s also about reuniting family, or making a decision not to put them in danger. I think RJ Scott will bring us more of Adam and Justin. With Adam only gaining bits and pieces of his memory, there isn’t closure yet between him and Justin...."

The Way She Reads - "....Overall this was an at times very hard to read, heartrending but ultimately fabulous and very satisfactory story that kept me on edge for longer than I’m usually comfortable with, only to lead me to the happy but not too perfect ending it needed. I can’t wait to read book four and spend more time with all of the Montana gang...."

Kyle (Legacy 1) - Latest Reviews

Diverse Reader - "....As always with an RJ Scott book, the writing is beautifully done. The dialog is real and full of both humor and snark, and lots of emotion as well. The interactions between Kyle and Jack were as sweet as they were awkward and Kyle's much needed closure with Darren was especially welcome and done so well. I am so excited to see what else happens in this series and anxiously await the next book!...."

Padme's Library - 5/5 - "....I never imagined that I could truly enjoy the Double-D spinoff without Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes, boy was I wrong.  That's not to say we don't see some of the regulars from the Double-D universe but it's in small side helpings, almost like a bites of dessert taken throughout the meal.  Legacy Ranch may be a off-shoot of RJ Scott's Texas series, but it is a journey all on its own with new stories that I can't wait to continue reading because I couldn't put Kyle down...."

The Way She Reads - "....Long story short; Kyle is a touching, at times heartbreaking, stunningly beautiful, not always easy to read, but utterly rewarding story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I also feel the need to go back and read the Texas series. While my experience with Kyle is proof that it isn’t necessary to be familiar with the earlier series to enjoy this book, I am now very curious about what preceded this story...."

The Geekery Book Review - 4/5 - "....Kyle is a powerful story about some very broken men! It’s a story more about healing and learning what love is more than it’s a romance. This is a touching book that made me feel so much for these characters....

....Overall, this was a very touching story focused more on the healing and finding that love. While there is pain and darkness in this story there are many more heartwarming moments as Kyle and Jason rebuild. There are also many other great characters that support Kyle and Jason on this journey as well. I really enjoyed this book, it definitely has a spot in my heart and cannot wait for more of this series!...."

Foxylutely Books! - 4/5 - "....As with all RJ Scott’s characters, these two are quite complex individuals and all their hidden emotions are slowly but surely revealed to the reader. It is always a pleasure to unravel the depths of these multifaceted characters. Although the romance was slow to start it gave the reader a chance to fully understand how they were separately and then find the reward when they finally found trust and love.

There is an element of the dark subject matter of abuse, anxiety and depression that is cleverly touched upon but could be a trigger for some. Overall though this was a gritty and emotional read and a great start to a new series. Might go back and read the Texas series though as Jack and Riley sound hot! Four stars...."

Wicked Reads - "....Kyle is a man who has been badly abused, and yet we discover through this lovely story that he is very empathetic and caring. His behaviour with Jason is so sensitive, so loving, and ultimately, so romantic. Likewise, Jason has a grasp of Kyle's issues and is very defensive of him when in company. No doubt their pasts have made them super aware, but the way it is written is spot on. Using horses as a vehicle for recovery also works in so many ways. Jason's naivety of all things country, and certainly all things horse, mean that anyone reading this will also benefit from that knowledge. These are two men who deserve a good outcome, and find it together much to their surprise and everyone's delight...!" - Wicked Reads has multiple blogger reviews on Kyle, so please click the link above to view them all.

Rainbow Book Reviews - "....If you like to see wounded young men pick themselves up and make something of their lives despite all the pain and abuse they have suffered, if you like horses and ranch life, and if you’re looking for a read that is set in the familiar environment of the Double D Ranch, has the same emotional warmth as the ‘Texas, Campbell-Hayes’ books, and adds even more lovable characters to this world, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. It’s both an excellent beginning of a new series and a great continuation of an existing tradition...."

Dog-Eared Daydreams - 4.5/5 - "....This was such an intriguing story! Since I hadn't read the Texas series, I wasn't sure if Kyle was mentioned or played a minor part in any of the books, though I'm assuming he was in some form or another. His past still haunts him, stunting his ability to form any real relationships with the people of Double D Ranch. Jason pushes him out of his comfort zone, but Jason is also a broken man, one who doesn't just have a past to deal with but also struggles to get a hold on his depression. The hurdles they need to overcome are more of as individuals because in order for them to be a true couple, they'll have to face everything weighing upon them. They've got a strong support system around them, but they also need to be the ones to see and acknowledge that all these people want is to help the two without expecting anything in return...."

Gaybook Reviews - 4/5 "....This story was very difficult to read at times. Kyle’s abusive past is revealed a little at a time to the readers and it broke my heart. There was very little romance of the flowery kind. Jason and Kyle are not normal individuals and the way the author has created the budding relationship between the men was so realistic and beautiful. They had issues to get intimate physically and they work through that in their own pace which was amazing and so brave of them. Their efforts and struggle to overcome their past and to live and love was commendable...."

Rainbow Gold Reviews - 10/10 - "....I am not sure where RJ plans on taking this series, but I will tell you one thing, I for one am on board.  This book broke me a lot and healed me even more.  Just like she did for Kyle and Jason.  I highly recommend this book if you want some hurt comfort and a little bit of Jack & Riley.  But if you have yet to read the Texas series let me tell you this one can be read without reading the Texas series, but you will miss out on all the connections from the previous book.  So in my personal opinion, get them all, you won’t regret them for a moment...."

Prism Book Alliance - 4/5 - "....This story is about hope and healing. It’s the story of 2 broken men being there for each other and offering strength they didn’t know they had. It’s a story of friendship that very slowly turns into something more but first there must be trust and for Kyle and Jason that proves to the most difficult thing in the world...."

Sexy, romantic, gorgeous... The Housemates Series from Jay Northcote

Jay Northcote recently released the third book in her Housemates series, Practice Makes Perfect. And if you follow me on Facebook you will know I love her writing, and these are my favourite books of hers!

All three of the Housemates stories have different main characters and can be read as standalones, but it’s probably best to read them in order. They’re fun, sexy feel good reads in a university/college setting. And I love them all... in fact I'm attempting to encourage her to write another one for Christmas!

I've reviewed all three and they are all 5/5.... Jay just has a way of writing that I love - go read book 1, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

The book

Getting experience with the guy next door seems like a great idea—until the lines blur.

Dev, a geeky first year physics student, has zero sexual experience and he’s determined to change that ASAP. After a bad time in halls of residence, he’s starting the summer term with different housemates and a new plan of action.

Ewan lives in the house next door to Dev. He’s young, free and single, and isn’t looking to change that anytime soon. When awkward circumstances throw them together, Ewan offers to help Dev out in the bedroom in return for maths tutoring, and Dev jumps at the chance.

They work their way through Dev’s sex-to-do list, but what starts as a perfect no-strings arrangement gets more complicated as their feelings for each other begin to grow. If they’re going to turn their lessons in lovemaking into something more permanent, they need to work out how they feel about each other—before they get to the end of Dev’s list.

Excerpt

Sitting on his bed, Dev yawned, his full stomach making him sleepy. He stared at his phone as he contemplated calling home but decided he couldn’t face it tonight. He loved his mum, but she did tend to bang on. Once she got him on the line, she’d end up talking for ages and asking him a million questions he was too tired to answer. Instead, he sent his mum a quick text.

All moved in, everything’s good. I’m shattered now so I’m going to have an early night. I’ll call you tomorrow.

She replied within seconds as though she’d been waiting for him to call.

Okay sweetie, glad you’re settled. Sleep well xxx

He picked up his notepad and crossed off phone home. Texting counted. He also crossed off everything else on his list for today. That was Saturday done.

Dev set his notepad aside, opened his laptop, and pulled up his lists app. He liked his notepad for day-to-day organisation; it gave him a certain satisfaction to cross out the things he’d done and to get to the end of the day with all the tasks completed. But for longer-term planning, he kept his lists on his Mac, synced to his phone.

For the first time in six months, Dev could breathe again. Finally he had a safe place where he could get back on track and look to the future. He began to type.

He stared at the words on the screen and sighed. That seemed like a lot of things to aim for. But it was good to have goals, right? Jez and Mac seemed really nice, so hopefully Dev was already on his way to achieving the first objective. And that bloke Ewan… Dev’s mind conjured up the image of the flame-haired hunk who lived next door. Ewan had been friendly.

Maybe there was potential there too.

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England, with her husband, two children, and two cats.

She comes from a family of writers, but she always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed her by. She spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content. One day, she decided to try and write a short story–just to see if she could–and found it rather addictive. She hasn’t stopped writing since.

Heat Reviews

The Book

Serving up passion, family, love and hate, with a side order of arson.

Lewis has lost nearly everything, and now it seems that Devon is here to take the last thing he has left - working in his beloved restaurant, Laurels. But when an arsonist threatens everything Lewis loves, he realizes sometimes everyone has their ghosts, and he discovers an unexpected ally who is prepared to risk everything for him.

* * * * *

Set in the small cathedral city of Salisbury, Master Chef Lewis Mandineau no longer owns the Laurels, the restaurant that had been in his family for generations. Betrayed and robbed by an ex-lover, he's had to sell to Carnegie Enterprises, an American corporation. That isn't all Lewis has to contend with. Rachel, his beloved younger sister has been left severely hurt by the car crash that killed their parents, and taking care of her has to be his priority.

Enter Devon Trelawney III, sent to assess the viability of the restaurant and its staff. Devon knows all about family tradition. But he also knows sentiment has no place in business matters, and the Laurels' potential is swamped by the debts it has accrued. Devon is a hardheaded businessman, first and foremost, but Lewis and Rachel test his resolve in different ways. Soon Devon is forced to admit that what seems like an impossible love can sometimes become something very real.

Bayou Book Junkie 4.5 This was definitely a must-read book, a riveting blend of romance, friendship, and suspense.

It was a flawless collaboration by Chris Quinton and RJ Scott, really well-written, fast-paced and that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page.

Making It Happen 4.5  It does have a good, strong storyline and some mystery to expand the reader's intrigue...but the characters are really the ones who make this story what it is.

Heat was a 4.5-star read for me, and I would recommend this to M/M romance fans 18+ as a good way to escape for a few hours of entertaining reading.

Southern Babes Book Blog 4/5 This story was a sweet, heartbreaking, emotional one.

Its about second chances, moving on with your life, and having the love and friendship you deserve. I really wish there was more to this story and i hope we get more!!

makes you stop and look again at your own life 5/5 This is a book that I think anyone can relate to. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I have not read a lot of M/M genre books but the few I have this ranks right up there. This book shows us more than gender it shows is the struggles one goes through to find a light in the mist of a very dark tunnel. These men each go through everyday struggles both in life and in a budding relationship.

Alpha Book Club 4/5

Heat is a predictable read until you get to the last ⅓ of the book, then the reader is taken on a wild, intriguing, heartwrenchingly out of the blue ride that will leave you breathless!

The Geekery Book Review 4-4.5/5  This was one of those books I just couldn’t put down once I started reading.

I loved Lewis and Devon and their journey together! I really want to just start over from the beginning and get lost in their story again and again.

The Blogger Girls 4/5  This was a great story and a fine beginning to the Salisbury Tales series.

It was going to take a complete miracle for these authors to redeem this guy because he was just awful. Lewis and Devon…two of the most unlikely love bugs ever.

Prism Book Alliance 4/5 There were a lot of wonderful little details about this book that I had forgotten.
More than anything I enjoyed it because it is easy to read, very entertaining and filled with lots of love.

Dog-Eared Daydreams 4/5  We've got a nicely developed, semi-slow burn romance.

I'm glad that it took as long as it did for these two to trust one another and to forge some sort of friendship.

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words 4.5/5  Heat by Chris Quinton and RJ Scott grabbed at my heartstrings right from the beginning of their story and never let go.

Begin your introduction to these captivating characters, their restaurant, and a romance to cheer for.

Rainbow Book Reviews  RJ Scott and Chris Quinton certainly managed to serve up a deliciously intense, action-packed, and suspenseful novel.

If you like enemies-to-lovers stories in a modern-day setting, if you want to see how two men who are on opposite sides of a restaurant-rescue operation begin to see eye-to-eye, and if you’re looking for a read full of passion, dedication, stubbornness, and suspense, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do.

The Way She Reads  In short, this was a good and thoroughly enjoyable read.

I read most of this book with a smile on my face, except for the times when I held my breath because of the sudden suspense.

Wicked Reads 4/5 & 5/5  Heat is a nice, cosy m/m romance and I really enjoyed reading it.

While at the same time, I was shaking my head and thinking “I can’t believe I didn’t see THAT coming.”

When the only way to win is to hide who you are, how far are you prepared to go?

Reuben “Angel” Jacobs is one step away from giving it all up. Losing a place in the live finals of Sing UK almost kills him. He has no choice but to go home and work for the family business, even though it means giving up his dreams and proving his old bullies right.

Corey Dixon is a rocker at heart. Being on the spectrum means that making sense of other people’s ‘normal’ is hard in itself, let alone in the chaos of a high-powered competition. Singing is his safe space, the only way he can think through the noise in his head. Messing up his audition for the live shows means his journey is over, and it’s the worst day of his life.

The judges throw them a lifeline and create a boy band from the near-miss hopefuls. Angel, Corey, and three others are put together in a room and offered the chance to sing as a group. Agreeing to become part of the new band means Corey has to hide who he is and what Angel has come to mean to him.

Is winning worth the price Corey and Angel have to pay?

Sexy Erotic Exciting Book reviews 5/5 Boy Banned is a book not to be missed.

There are times in life when a person can honestly say that a book touches their life. Boy Banned by R.J. Scott was such a book.

Ms. Scott delivered such a touching and heartwarming story ... The flawless writing facilitated a beautifully written tale of young men attempting to make it into the world of music and oh wait…one of them happened to have Asperger Syndrome. "

The Geekery Book Review 4-4.5 I highly recommend this wonderful story!

I could gush more about Corey and Angel and the relationship they build together, but I’ll just say you should definitely read this book!

Bookaholics-Not-So-Anonymous 4.5 Boy Banned was sweet with a tiny dash of angst...

The author tackled Corey's status with sensitivity, portraying how his behavior elicits varying reactions from people, but when he's with those who truly care about him, it's all about care and patience.

Multitasking Mommas 5/5 RJ went over and above this one

I couldn't recommend this book more and seriously, just the second time this year I can honestly say, multiply the rating by five and there you have it.

Diverse Readers  This is a stunning story. Entertaining and touching!

Their interactions, moments, all of it. It was written so brilliantly that I had tears in my eyes at the beauty of it all.

Rainbow Book Reviews The love that grows between them is amazing. Corey and Angel, are perfect together.

It’s heartwarming and gives hope to everyone who feels they are different.

Cathy Writes Romance 5/5 My favorite thing about this book is it didn’t just focus on Corey and Angel.

Their romance was sweet, slowly built from Corey’s need to be grounded, Angels understanding and how all the guys accepted each other’s differences.

Archaeolibrarian 5/5 STOP!!!! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT OPENING THIS BOOK...

... at least, not until you can sit down and read it without interruption because, trust me, you will NOT want to be disturbed until you've finished it!

Zipper Rippers 4/5  A must-read for any romance fan.

There was angst, there was drama (but not too over the top), real emotions from real people and the romance between Cory an Angel was so sweet and romantic.

Making It Happen 4.5  Oh, and don't be surprised if you become a little emotional while reading-this book will definitely do that to you!

The politics of the show made me want to scream, and Brianna...I don't even want to go there as I may say things I might regret later. Well, no...I wouldn't regret them at all. You'll see when you read it what I mean (GRRRR...).

Wicked Reads 4/5 Can Corey merge with these other people and be a cohesive unit?

The autism aspect of the book was interesting and I felt portrayed well.

The Novel Approach 4/5 Boy Banned is simply this: a feel-good book, unrepentantly so, full of optimism and happy beginnings.

RJ Scott is always a sure-bet author for me when I’m looking for a romance novel I can really sink my whole heart into, and boy oh boy, is Boy Banned that book.

Bayou Book Junkie 4.5  I really enjoyed Boy Banned and definitely recommend it.

Boy Banned might not be the first book about the creation of a boy band and certainly not the last but the characters are definitely a fresh take on the story!

Joyfully Jay 5/5 Boy Banned is a book which touched my heart and gave me hope.

However, Boy Banned is not a story about ASD, though this helps the reader in understanding Corey and his initial need for Angel’s comfort. Boy Banned is a story about love, friendship, and identity.

Prism Book Alliance 4/5  His sheer need for Angel and the way Angel so quickly becomes able to read him is fascinating and so hopeful.

I wasn’t sure how difficult it would be to read but I did feel it would be accurate given what it means to the author and boy did she do a fantastic job with it.
