Guest Post - N.R. Walker on Cowboys!

A huge thank you to RJ for having me!

Today’s chat is all about cowboys!!! And who doesn’t love cowboys?? My series, RED DIRT HEART, is set in the Outback of Australia in a vast desert of red dirt. Sutton Station (cattle farms, or ranches, are called stations in Australia) is a whopping 2.58 million acres, which isn’t too uncommon in central Australia. I actually based Sutton Station off a working station in the Northern Territory of Australia. Lucy Creek Station is a real place, three hours from the nearest town in the middle of the desert. Real people live and work there, running successful cattle production.

You can see Lucy Creek on Google Maps. Make sure you have it on Satellite settings so you can see the red, red dirt!

My characters, Charlie Sutton and Travis Craig, not only have issues with farming desert sand in a new millennium, but they also have small-town minds to deal with. Being a farmer in the Outback is hard enough, but being a gay farmer makes it so much harder.

Charlie was born and bred in the desert, and is resigned to being alone forever. Travis, an agronomy student from America, falls in love with the desert the second he arrives, and he changes Charlie’s life in ways he never dreamed possible.

The Red Dirt Heart Series consists of four full length novels, one Christmas short story, and a short crossover story with my Imago series.

NR Walker - Cronin's Key II Audio

A huge thank you to RJ for having me!

Although I’ve been published for over five years, audio is something that is relatively new to me. In fact, it was the lovely RJ Scott who helped me get titles into audio for the very first time just this year.

Audio is such a fabulous way to ingest your favourite books! It basically means you can have a book read to you when you’re driving, walking, shopping, vacuuming… the possibilities are endless. It’s the ultimate multi-tasking tool!

My latest audiobook is CRONIN’S KEY II and it hit the shelves on August 1st!

With the incredible talent of Joel Leslie Froomkin at the mic, Cronin’s Key II really comes alive. There’s a slew of accents to rival the United Nations, but Joel does it easy ⎯ well, he makes it sound easy anyway.

Alec and Cronin’s story continues in Cronin’s Key II and you can check it out at Tantor, Amazon or Audible.

The Book

History isn't always what it seems . . .

With the battle of Egypt behind them, Alec and Cronin are enjoying the thrill of new love. Though fate doesn't wait long before throwing them back into the world of weird.

They know Alec's blood is special, though its true purpose still eludes them. And given Alec's inability to be changed into a vampire, Cronin is free to drink from him at will. But the ramifications of drinking such powerful blood starts a ripple effect.

With the help of Jorge, a disturbing vampire-child with the gift of foresight, Alec and Cronin face a new kind of war. This time their investigations lead them to the borders of China and Mongolia—but it's not what lies in the pits beneath that worries Alec.

It's the creator behind it all.

In the underground depths of China, amidst a war with the Terracotta Army, they will find out just what the Key is, and what Alec means to the vampire world.

Valentines, Butterflies and Dancing - NR Walker Interviews Jack & Lawson from Imago

NR: I’d like to welcome two very special people. Lawson Gale and Jack Brighton, from my next release, Imago. Please take a seat.

*both men sit. Lawson looks around the room, taking in every detail. Jack just smiles. Lawson is wearing a blue button down chino shirt with a navy blue bowtie, navy trousers. His hair is perfect. Jack is wearing jeans, boots, and an old T-shirt. His scruffy hair is not perfect.*

Lawson: Hello.

Jack: Hi. Nice to be here.

NR: Okay, so let me introduce you properly. People are yet to meet you, and they’re excited. Lawson, I’ll start with you.

Lawson: *tries not to cringe and fails* If you must.

NR: I must. You’re a lepidopterist. Can you explain to our readers what that is?

Lawson: I study butterflies and moths. Though I specialise in butterflies.

NR: And this field of study takes you to Tasmania, where you met Jack.

Lawson: *looks at Jack and smiles* Yes, that’s correct.

Jack: *smirks*

NR: And Jack, you work with the Parks & Wildlife. But that’s not where you met, was it?

Jack: Nope. I met him on a plane from Melbourne to Launceston.

Lawson: *his brow furrows* That’s not entirely correct. We saw each other on the plane. You laughed at me, remember? Then you tried to trample me into the aisle. We technically met at the airport in Launceston.

Jack: *looks at Lawson with the patience of a saint* Well, yes. But I didn’t laugh at you. I made a lame mental joke about jerking off. *Lawson’s mouth falls open. Jack smiles* And I didn’t trample you into the aisle. I bumped into you, quite by accident.

Lawson: *unamused* Casu consulto.

Jack: *again with the patience of a saint thing* And that means…?

Lawson: It’s Latin for accidently on purpose.

Jack: *sighs* I didn’t bump into you intentionally, but I’m glad I did.

Lawson: *rolls eyes* Then you lied to me and told me the Museum in Launceston was on your way.

Jack: That wasn’t exactly a lie. And anyway, I don’t regret it. Because it gave me an excuse to spend time with you.

NR: *clears throat* So, um, what was your first impression of each other?

Lawson: I thought he was a serial killer.

NR: *blinks*

Jack: It’s true. He did. My first impression of Lawson was that he was unlike any guy I’d ever seen before. Well, that and the bowtie. I was a goner.

Lawson: *smiles at Jack* He likes suspenders too.

Jack: *shifts in seat and clears throat* That’s true, also.

NR: *looks at Lawson* You thought he was a serial killer but you went with him anyway? I thought you were supposed to be a genius?

Lawson: *looks at Jack* I told you this would happen.

Jack: *laughs loudly* He came with me because he needed a lift.

Lawson: And he was cute. With a dimple when he smiled.

NR: *nods slowly* A cute serial killer. Got it.

Lawson: *peers at NR’s notepad* With a dimple when he smiled. You didn’t write that.

NR: *amends interview*

Lawson: *preens*

Jack: *chuckles*

NR: *looks at Jack* Let me guess. You find him endearing.

Jack: *laughs* Completely.

Lawson: I’m sorry, was there a point to this interview?

NR: *clears throat* Yes, actually. Valentine’s Day is coming up and I was wondering what you two had planned…

Jack: *blinks. Twice.*

Lawson: *looks at Jack* Well?”

Jack: *looks at Lawson* Well, what?”

Lawson: What do you have planned?

Jack: *puts hand to his chest* Why do I have to be the one to plan something?

Lawson: *takes a moment to look duly offended* You haven’t organised anything?

Jack: Not yet, but you know I will. *looks to NR for help*

NR: *looks at Lawson, panic struck* This is true. Jack has organised some incredible dates in the past.

Lawson: True… *smiles at Jack* The dates he’s taken me on have been remarkable.

NR: Shall we tell our readers any more on what happens in Imago?

Jack: Yes, good idea.

Lawson: Well, that would be redundant if you want them to read the book.

NR: We won’t tell them everything. Just a little taste.

*both Lawson and Jack blush*

NR: Okay, so maybe ‘taste’ was the wrong word…

Jack: *clears throat* Well, Imago takes place in Scottsdale, Tasmania.

Lawson: Yes. And I stay in Jack’s hometown to search for a butterfly. That’s where the remarkable dates take place.

NR: And what does Imago mean? It’s an unusual word.

Jack: *sighs*

Lawson: How is it unusual? To whose standard?

NR: Mine.

Lawson: *scowls* That’s hardly―

Jack: I think she means it’s not a common word, to the uninitiated.

Lawson: *turns to Jack* Why didn’t she say that?

NR: *raises eyebrow at Jack* Is he still endearing?

Jack: *laughs* Totally.

Lawson: *ignores NR and sniffs* Imago is the final and fully developed adult stage of an insect, typically winged.

NR: That’s so apt!

Lawson: Of course you’d say that. You named the book.

NR: *shrugs* True. So tell me, have you guys met each other’s families yet?

Jack: Nope. That happens in the sequel, right?

Lawson: *leans in* He’s not nervous. How can he not be nervous?

Jack: I don’t know why I’m not. I figure if you’re happy with me, they’ll be happy with me. I don’t know why you’re so nervous. I told you my folks’ll love you.

Lawson: I tend to get off on the wrong foot with people. People think I’m strange.

Jack: No they don’t. People love you.

Lawson: *raises one eyebrow at Jack* Everyone I work with hates me.

Jack: Because they’re mostly idiots. We’ve established this. Well, the people you used to work with. You don’t work with them anymore.

Lawson: *tilts head thoughtfully* They had above average intelligence, so they weren’t actually idiots. But yes, they were…

Jack: Idiots.

NR: *snorts* And how’s the work going now, Lawson?

Lawson: Very well. *frowns for a moment, then turns back to Jack* I’d like to revisit our earlier conversation pertaining to Valentine’s Day.

Jack: *sighs*

Lawson: I think I’d like to do something we’ve not done before.

Jack: *smirk* And that is?

Lawson: *smiles ridiculously* Guess.

Jack: Rock climbing? Skiff sailing on Hobart Harbour? Horse riding?

Lawson: *pales more with each suggestion* I was going to say dancing.

Jack:
*squints at Lawson* Dancing?

Lawson: Yes, as in moves-to-music. You’ve not taken me dancing.

Jack: *looks at NR, not amused* Dancing? I don’t know how I’ll ever thank you…

Lawson: It wasn’t NR’s idea. It was mine.

Jack: *takes Lawson’s hand* Lawson, I don’t dance. Well, actually, I can’t dance, more to the point.

Lawson: Everyone can dance. The degree of ability is a factor on how well one dances, but everyone can dance. *seems to ponder a moment* I should add a disclaimer that being able-bodied is also a factor.

Jack: *acts like this is normal conversation* Well, I am able-bodied…

Lawson: *blushes* Yes, you are.

Jack: But it’s my ability to dance that is sorely lacking.

Lawson: I don’t believe you.

Jack: Well, I’m sure there’s university footage of a Peter Garrett impersonation somewhere.

Lawson: *blinks* Oh.

Jack: *nods*

Lawson:
But I’m talking of slow-dancing.

Jack: *looks horrified* Waltzing?

Lawson: No, just slow dancing. *takes out phone and scrolls through screen*

Jack: What are you doing? Are you Googling Peter Garrett dance impersonations?

Lawson: *snorts* No. *stands up and put phone on seat*

Jack: Uh, Lawson.

Lawson:
*holds out hand to Jack*

Jack: *is scared*

Lawson: *waits with hand out for Jack*

Jack: *sighs but takes Lawson’s hand and reluctantly stands*

Lawson: *presses play on phone*

<music starts to play>

Jack: What song is this?

Lawson:
*pulls Jack close* Wicked Game, by James McMorrow. Now just put your arms around me, and move with me. Can you feel the beat?

Jack: *does what Lawson says* I can feel something.

Lawson: *chuckles*

NR: *watches the two men slow dance, and stands up slowly* I’ll just be going…

Jack: *nuzzles Lawson’s ear*

Lawson: *runs hand down over Jack’s arse*

NR: *is awkward* Right then. Thanks for your time…

Lawson: *hums something to Jack*

Jack: *chuckles*

NR: *gets to the door* Maybe next time we can do an actual interview.

Lawson: *still slow-dancing, looks up to Jack*

Jack: *slowly pressed his lips to Lawson’s*

NR: *opens door and walks out* Bloody characters. Never do what they’re supposed to.

The Book

Nerdy, introverted genius lepidopterist, Lawson Gale, is an expert on butterflies. He finds himself in a small town in Tasmania on a quest from an old professor to find an elusive species that may or may not even exist.

Local Parks and Wildlife officer, Jack Brighton, is an ordinary guy who loves his life in the sleepy town of Scottsdale. Along with his Border collie dog, Rosemary, his job, and good friends, he has enough to keep from being lonely.

But then he meets Lawson, and he knows he’s met someone special. There’s more to catching butterflies, Jack realises. Sometimes the most elusive creatures wear bowties, and sometimes they can’t be caught at all.

Lawson soon learns there are butterflies he can’t learn about it in books. They exist only in a touch, in a kiss, in a smile. He just has to let go first, so these butterflies can fly.

Imago is the story of finding love, bowties, and butterflies.

The Spence Cohen Series: Book One by N.R. Walker

Thank you so much for having me RJ, I really appreciate it! Last week was the release of Spencer Cohen Series, Book One. And in light of that, I’m going to talk about writing a series.

First off, let me preface this by saying I’m not a plotter. At all. For me, planning a story begins with the main character’s name, his intended love interest’s name, opening the doc and writing the words “Chapter One”. Usually I have a general direction I know these boys will go, and more often than not, I will write the final/closing scene first. Kinda like knowing your destination, then going back and starting at the beginning for the entire journey.

And for me, writing a series is no different. I can honestly say, from all the series’ I’ve done (Red Dirt Heart, Turning Point, Blind Faith, Thomas Elkin, Cronin’s Key) I’ve never intended them to be more than one book. I simply started to write and when that book was done, their story wasn’t. So, I would open a new document and repeat the whole process over again, sometimes writing three or four books, until the characters told me their story was complete.

But with Spencer, I had a plan. Well, kind of. As much as I can plan anything, anyway. I needed to write something shorter―my brain was done with research-intensive novels after the Cronin Key Series, which had a combined word count of over 200K words, and I needed to write something short and fluffy. When I first had the idea of Spencer, he was supposed to be cocky and arrogant, his story was supposed to fun and sexy. But when I finally got around to writing him, he was telling me a different story. He was more complex than that. He had a not-so-nice past and some layers to peel back, so I knew one book wasn’t going to be enough.

I kinda knew his story would be more like Thomas Elkin’s. Three shorter stories with a consecutive timeline, each instalment showing a different level of character and development in their relationship. I’m happy with the three instalments and Spencer and Andrew’s story is complete―but I wouldn’t rule out a revisit to them somewhere in the future. I just can’t promise it this stage.

So while each story isn’t exactly a novel, they’re not that short either… Spencer One is 42K words, Spencer Two is 52K words, and Spencer Three is 50K words. So to put it simply, the story wouldn’t have worked as one book. Not only would the length, and therefore price of a 144K word book, be too high, the story Spencer was telling me was definitely in three parts. And I learned a long time ago not to argue with the characters in my head because I am, after all, just the one who types their story. ;)

So, more about Spencer One. I originally made the cover myself after finding the most perfect double exposed photograph, but I sent it to the lovely Sara York who works her magic with all my covers and she really made it perfect.

Here’s the blurb:

Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers.

The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and got him, it was great. If the guy walked away, then as hard it was for the client, he knew it was over. Regardless of the outcome, Spencer’s work was done.

Andrew Landon’s ex left him without so much as an explanation. But his sister can’t stand to see him miserable, so, much to Andrew’s dismay, they hire Spencer to be Andrew’s new boyfriend to get the ex back.

For Spencer, it is never personal. Merely a business transaction. No emotions, no strings, no complications.

Yeah right.

Even a blind man could see how this would end.

Spencer Cohen Book One is exclusive to Amazon, and can be found HERE.

Spencer Cohen Book Two will be released March 17th, and Spencer Cohen Book Three will be released April 21st.

Red Dirt Christmas

Blurb

Travis had been here at Sutton Station for just over a year. We were technically engaged, not that we’d told anyone. He was happy just knowin’ I’d said yes, and I had some head-clearin’ stuff to work through. Knowing I was good enough for Trav was one thing, but knowing if I was good enough to be a husband and father was somethin’ else entirely.

Life at Sutton Station had never been better. Business was strong, Trudy and Bacon’s little baby, Gracie, was a few weeks old now and as cute as a button, Ma’s health was good, and my relationship with Laura and Sam was in a pretty good place. And Travis? Well, life with him was still all kinds of perfect.

But, to Travis’s dismay, Christmas at the Station was just another day. Another day of getting up before the sun, feeding animals, fixin’ what needed fixin’, and checking water troughs all while tryin’ to keep out of the blistering heat.

And this year weren’t much different. Only that it was Travis’s first Sutton Station Christmas. The fact we didn’t go all out with decorations and celebrations baffled him, and if I was bein’ truthful, it disappointed him too.

Which was why I had to make it a special kind of Christmas…

Teaser:
Travis chuckled and nodded toward the lounge room. “I finished the tree,” he said and disappeared through the open doorway. I followed him to find the pine tree he’d brought in earlier now covered in tinsel, ornaments, and baubles. “I know you think the whole Christmas thing is kinda silly, but—”

“I love it,” I said. “The tree. I mean, I love what you’ve done to it.”

“I didn’t have much to work with,” he said. The corner of his mouth pulled down in a frown. “And it was all pretty old. I hung up all the things you made as a kid. I just wanted to do something.” He shrugged again. “I mean, it’s Christmas.”

“Trav.”

“And I know you guys aren’t big on the whole festive thing out here,” he said. “But I just thought it’d be nice, ya know? It’s Gracie’s first Christmas. Granted, she’s only four weeks old but that’s not the point.”

“Trav.”

“It’s about building memories, Charlie,” he said softly. “Family memories. Not just with everyone here, but our family. Ours start now. This is our first real Christmas too and I just thought it might be nice if you, you know, thought it was special too."

Review of Chronin's Key III by N.R. Walker

Chronin's Key III

History isn’t always what it seems…

Twelve months after his change, Alec MacAidan is still getting used to his many vampire talents. While most vampires would give anything to have more than one supernatural power, Alec craves nothing more than peace and time alone with Cronin. But when Alec meets entities from outside this realm, he’s left powerless in their presence.

Zoan are half-lycan, half-dragon creatures that have slipped through time and reality, seemingly undetected by man and vampire. Or have they? They bear an uncanny resemblance to gargoyles, leaving Alec’s view on all things weird to get a whole lot weirder.

This new quest leads Alec, Cronin, and their band of friends to Paris, Rome, and Moscow, where they learn that gargoyles aren’t simply statues on walls. In the underground pits beneath churches all over the world, Alec discovers the Key’s true destiny. Facing the Zoan might take every talent he has. And he may need help from the dead to get them all out alive.

Review:

What I liked most about this series is that I can easily imagine it as a film. A bit like any Jordan Hawk book the images are vivid in my head. I love Alec, with all his freaky powers, and his vulnerability when it comes to all things Cronin. As to Cronin, I just love the way he is always there for Alec. This small family of vampires is so tightly knit. Dan Brown was referenced a couple of times in this book, and I must admit the whole puzzle part of these books with their ancient riddles and history absolutely fascinates me. A brilliant book. Highly recommended that you read the entire series.

Review of Sixty Five Hours by N.R. Walker

Sixty Five Hours: A free read at All Romance ebooks.

Blurb: Cameron Fletcher and Lucas Hensley are advertising executives who have Sixty Five Hours to pull together the campaign of their careers.

Sixty Five Hours to get along. Sixty Five Hours to not kill each other. Sixty Five Hours to fall in love.

Review: I've not read a contemporary NR Walker that I haven't enjoyed. I loved this story, cute and sexy and entertaining... my kind of story.

Excerpt: CHAPTER 1 - I am... so screwed.
I sat in my office trying not to watch him.
But I did.
His office was across from mine. The glass walls provided a daily distraction, because for the fucking life of me, I did not want to watch him.
But I did.
I didn't like him. In fact, he pissed me off. He was a gorgeous, fucking arrogant, self-righteous sonnova bitch. The boss' son. Wealthy, smart, impeccably dressed.
And straight.
The women in the office, no scratch that, in the entire building, fawned over him. It was embarrassing, really. They'd check their make-up before he walked in, they'd bat their eyelashes, giggle and flirt without shame. And he'd just smile that smug fucking smile - that gorgeous, heart-stopping smile - and left them all aflutter in his wake.
I'd been here for six months and as far as I knew, he'd never dated anyone from the office. He must have those professional-boundaries work-ethics I'd read about. Either that, or Boss-Daddy prohibited inter-office relations.
My personal assistant, Rachel, swore he was a nice guy. She was best friends with Simona, who happened to be his personal assistant. He smiled and chatted with both of them, but if I happened to walk past them, he'd glare at me. I acted like it didn't bother me, give the girls a grin, and a dip of an imaginary hat I obviously wasn't fucking wearing. And they loved it.
I wasn't sure if that's what pissed him off, or maybe he didn't like Texans. Maybe he didn't like the fact I was headhunted from one of the most lucrative advertising agencies in Dallas. Maybe it was because I was given an office right across the hall from him, next to his father's. Maybe it was because I was hand-picked by his Daddy-dearest, and he was threatened I might just be better at this job than him.
Maybe he didn't like me because I’m gay.
But I didn't think that was it. He was friendly enough with Marcus, from Accounts. I'd seen them talking plenty of times and Marcus was so damn gay he made my head spin. Surely a creeped out homophobe wouldn't go anywhere near the poster child of lilac cashmere and lip gloss.
From the day I first met him, he'd been cold toward me. I'd flown up to Chicago for the interview for Senior Advertising Executive with the prestigious Fletcher Advertising, Inc. We met and chatted nicely for two minutes before his father came in and the informal interview started. Yes, it was informal, but still an intense interview. I was a little nervous, but I was me: professional, honest and direct.
See, the thing is, I'm very fucking good at what I do. I don't mince words, and I don't waste time. So when I was asked if I had any questions, I said, "Just one."
The two men looked at me to continue.
So, I did. "I don't need to tell you how good I am at my job. You have my portfolio, and quite frankly, I doubt I'd be sitting here if you didn't already know that I alone can increase your account profitability by at least twenty-five percent. Hell, if I haven't reached that target within the first year, you can either kick my ass or fire it. But what is not written on my CV anywhere is that I'm gay."
Both men blinked.
"I don't advertise my sexuality, nor do I hide it. This is the only time I expect to discuss this matter with you, so I need to know before we waste anymore time, if you, or this company, is in anyway uncomfortable or homophobic? If the answer is yes, then I'll thank you both for the opportunity, but I'll be back in Texas in time for supper."
And with that, the boss smiled, stood and shook my hand, while the son looked like he'd just been shit on from a great height. I started two weeks later and Cameron Fletcher had been indifferent to me since.
I wouldn't say hostile. But I certainly wouldn't say pleasant, either.
A sharp rap on my door snapped me out of my memories before it opened. My suave and distinguished, Armani-suited boss stepped into my office. "Lucas?"
"Yes, Mr. Fletcher?"
"My office. Ten minutes."
"Sure." I smiled at him.
He closed the door, and I looked at Rachel for some kind of explanation. She shrugged, and we both turned back to the glass wall and watched Mr. Fletcher knock on his son's door.
"Cameron?"
He stepped inside and we could no longer hear any spoken words, but we watched the silent father and son conversation.
"He doesn't look happy," Rachel said beside me.
"Which one?" I asked.
She giggled. "Cameron."
"Is he ever happy?"
She nudged my shoulder and smiled a twisted pout at me, playfully telling me to leave him alone.
Mr. Fletcher walked out of Cameron's office, and we watched as Cameron sat at his desk, ran his hands through his hair twenty times and swung his chair around so we could no longer see him.
We watched Simona quickly sort out files and hand them to him, then Rachel said, "Shoot, Lucas! It's time. Go! Don't be late." She all but pushed me out the door, just as Cameron's door opened directly in front of me.
Ignoring Cameron completely, I tipped my invisible hat and smiled at Simona. "Miss Simona."
She grinned, and Cameron rolled his eyes and stalked off in front of me. I soon realized, he was also heading to his father's office.
Shit.
I followed him, entering through the open double doors at the end of the hall. Mr. Fletcher's office was huge; open, light and contemporary yet stylish. There was a large archer's arrow embellishing the wall behind his desk. The archer's arrow symbol, the Fletcher Advertising icon, was on the Fletcher family crest apparently.
The arrow, that simple, signature piece was on every fucking thing; doors, windows, stationary, furniture; television, internet, magazines, newspapers. That very arrow was synonymous with advertising across the country. It represented excellence in this industry.
Hell, there was even one next to my name on my business cards.
They didn't need a catch-phrase, or cheesy slogans. The symbol on its own said enough. When you saw the arrow, you thought Fletcher Advertising. Simple and effective.
Genius.
"Ah, Lucas," Mr. Fletcher, the man behind the genius, said. "Come, take a seat."
Cameron was there, though not looking at me. Truthfully, I was a little nervous as to the meaning behind this meeting and why it was just us three. Impromptu and exclusive meetings with the boss always made me tense, so I did the first thing that came naturally. I leaned back in my seat, crossed one ankle over my knee and smiled like we were there to discuss weekend football.
Smug, yeah. Cocky, maybe.
I sold advertising for fuck's sake.
It was my job to look like I knew the secret to your success.
It was an act. I knew that, but the client, the guy across the table holding the check book didn't.
"I suppose you're both wondering why I've called you in here," Mr Fletcher started, though he didn't give either of us time to speak. "I heard through the grapevine a certain lifestyle product company is in need of new marketing. I made some phone calls and have secured a one-off chance meeting to convince them they need us."
"Lurex," Cameron said confidently. "I read an article with the new CEO in Business Review USA. He said then he'd like to broaden horizons."
Mr. Fletcher nodded at his son and smiled, a little proudly. "Yes. Lurex."
Holy shit. The biggest lifestyle product company, as Mr. Fletcher so delicately put it, was the biggest manufacturer of condoms, personal lubricant and sex aides in the country.
That account would be... massive. Career-making kind of massive.
I could feel my grin getting wider, and Mr. Fletcher smiled when he looked at me. But it was Cameron who spoke. "Why are you telling both of us?"
That was a good point. I looked at Cameron then, though he still hadn't looked at me. His eyes were trained on his father.
"The meeting is 10 AM, Monday."
I blinked. I was sure Cameron blinked. Then I blinked again.
"As in three days away?" my mouth said before my brain could stop it. It was four o'clock on Friday for fuck's sake.
"Yes," Mr. Fletcher said slowly, like I was mentally handicapped. "In sixty-five hours I want Fletcher Advertising to walk into that meeting with a new product design, new target market, new campaign."
I stopped short of asking him if he'd lost his fucking mind and settled for shifting in my seat instead.
Mr. Fletcher looked at me, then at Cameron, and he said, "It's a twenty million dollar contract, and I want it. You are both exceptionally talented and, given an open schedule, I have no doubt either one of you could secure the deal."
Oh, fuck... I was pretty sure I knew where he was going with this....
"But we don't have an open schedule," Mr. Fletcher said. "We have sixty-five hours. That's why you will both work together over the weekend to make sure we walk into that meeting and blow them away."
Work together. Work all weekend.
Yep. That's what I thought.
Fuck.

Rumors have spread quickly of turmoil in Egypt. Covens are fleeing with news of a vampire who has a talent like no other, hell-bent on on unleashing the wrath of Death.

Red Dirt Heart 2 (Red Dirt #2) by N.R. Walker, 5/5 Highly Recommended

Up until Travis arrived on his doorstep, Charlie had lived a very solitary life. He had surrounded himself with isolation; a couple million acres of red dirt, scorching sun and loneliness.

Six months on, winter has settled over the desert, and Charlie has the life he never dreamed possible. But living and working together, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, for six months straight starts to take its toll.

Charlie is a stubborn, stubborn man, who tends to have more conversations in his head than what comes out his mouth, whereas Travis has no problem saying what’s on his mind. And even as they both struggle to communicate, struggle to make sense of need versus want, Charlie can see that he’s pushing Travis away - yet seems helpless to stop it.

When it all boils down to whether Travis should stay or go, maybe the decision won’t be theirs to make.

Review 5/5 and Highly Recommended

I devoured this book. I wanted to read more Charlie & Travis and I wasn't disappointed with this story. There was one point where I let out a *YES!* you'll see why when you read it! Again, told from Charlie's POV this is another visit to Sutton Station and I loved it. What more can I say? Beautifully written as was book 1, this didn't rush through the big scenes and the story built perfectly.

Red Dirt Heart (Red Dirt #1) by N.R. Walker, 5/5 Highly Recommended

Welcome to Sutton Station: One of the world’s largest working farms in the middle of Australia – where if the animals and heat don’t kill you first, your heart just might.

Charlie Sutton runs Sutton Station the only way he knows how; the way his father did before him. Determined to keep his head down and his heart in check, Charlie swears the red dirt that surrounds him – isolates him – runs through his veins.

American agronomy student Travis Craig arrives at Sutton Station to see how farmers make a living from one of the harshest environments on earth. But it’s not the barren, brutal and totally beautiful landscapes that capture him so completely, it’s the man with the red dirt heart.

Please note: This book is set in Australia, using Australian English and lingo.

Awww, Charlie and Travis. Who can fail to love these two... beautifully written and I read the book in one sitting and immediately bought book 2. I loved the very real emotions with the two men, and the equally realistic way they were written. I usually prefer two POVs, but this were perfect as seen through Charlie's eyes.
